George H.W. Bush serves as witness at same-sex wedding

Even though the reps want to minimalize the effects of such a thing, the reality is that it is a stark change from the norm. The fact is that prejudice against a certain group often falls upon those who are not part of the group but who do not run away from that group. The reason for that is because the prejudice have to destroy any support or acceptance of a group and let people know there will be social consequences for just being normal with those people. Yes, bush Sr. Is retired and there is not any danger to his political career for doing such a thing so it is easier, but there certainly used to be fallout for a person who would even consider attending a gay wedding because the opponents likened it to an endorsement rather than just simply enjoying a friend's wedding.

The reality is that the anti-gays are losing faster and faster. Yes, in order to maintain the fear of retribution to allies for being at a gay wedding they have to pretend it is not a failure of their group to ridicule and ostracize a person for attending a wedding. The reality is it shows another step in the collapse of the anti-gay efforts in the US. When people no longer suffer consequences for befriending and associating with gays more and more of the people will do it. As they do it they will find gay people can be enjoyable and good friends just like anyone else and this will further corrupt the absolutes of hatred toward gays. Sorry to the anti-gay people, but if you do not maintain the fear of retribution for association with a group you will lose harder and harder as people more readily recognize that group as human beings and valuable members of the community. You have to attack the allies because with a minority they are the ones who will bring a majority of support. This is a good thing to see a very right wing person be strong and participate with friends and to not take retribution for it will embolden others who may fear the consequences to their lives for admitting they feel gays should not be discriminated against. You can try to minimalize it's meaning for yourself, but it's effects will not be minimalized for the people who it truly does matter with.

I don't see a problem in what Bush 1 did...If I had a very good friend and she or he wanted to join ties and if it were a Civil Union I would definitely go to the ceremony

Bush 1 was always a Moderate.....He was never a Conservative.
