Five days ago, Rasmussen showed George Allen leading Jim Webb by 2 points. Today, it showed him down by 5. Webb's chances of winning the election shot up from 30% to 50% today, on InTrade's news-based stock market. Could it be that Allen's nasty attack on Jim Webb's past writing has backfired, at the worst possible time for him?

Other polls should be out in the next day or two. If this poll isn't an anomaly, George Allen is in big big trouble. Any momentum at all towards Webb (even if other polls don't show him taking the lead) is devastating for Allen.

And yet if you average all the major polls, Webb leads by 0.3%.

Ya I know. The other polls for this week aren't out yet. Like I said, we should see them in the next day or two, and know whether this one is an outlier or the norm for this week's polls.

What I find even more ominous for Allen than the poll is the InTrade quote. Webb certainly doesn't have the election in the bag, but his chances are looking a lot better than they were as little as a week ago.

Woo Hoo! I am praying that this poll is the right poll and that one of the very worst Senators ever is sent back to the private sector with a swift kick in the butt on the way out.

Traditionally you will find the incumbents surging the last week prior to the election................

I can remember in 2004 when the left wing media had Kerry beating Bush in all the exit polls hoping to discourage Republicans from voting but we all know what happened don't we..........

I love a guy who has his finger on the pulse of the nation. IF you had been paying attention Navy Pride you would never have written the fallacy that you opined...Why you ask?

This year the major reason that the Dems are on the threshold of kicking some elephant butt is due to the Independent voters who are skewing way to the Blue side of the map...and it is most unlikely that they will be hypnotized in the next week to all of a sudden vote for a complete dirtbag like soon to be (I hope) former Senator George Allen....

More polls are out:

Opinion Research for CNN. 10/26-29. Likely voters. MoE 4% (No trendlines)

Allen (R) 46
Webb (D) 50

Here are the other two polls from today for good measure:
Rasmussen. 10/25. Likely voters. MoE 4.5% (10/25 results)

Allen (R) 46 (50)
Webb (D) 51 (48)

Garin Hart Yang (D) for the DSCC. 10/26-29. Likely voters. MoE 3.5% (No trend lines)

Allen (R) 38
with leaners: 43
Webb (D) 43
with leaners: 47

Notice how the DSCC internal poll is actually the most pessimistic of the lot?

Looks like the exit polls from 2004 to discourage Conservatives from going to the polls........Didn't work then and won't work now........To bad.........

Wow. I guess it wasn't an anomaly then. Unless some other polls come out in the next couple days that show no movement towards Webb, it appears that Webb is in good shape going into November 7.

The only thing that happened in the campaign this past week was the Allen campaign publishing out-of-context quotes from Webb's books to make him look like a smut peddler, so any movement in the polls is directly attributable to that. If Webb pulls out a victory, this will probably be the most spectacular example of negative ads backfiring in recent memory.

First it was the racist comments now it's smut peddling. It's disgusting that these guys pull tactics like this, but it's even more sickening that it works.

Well, it is refreshing to see that dirty politics does backfire every so often.

Aside from the smut accusations from the Allen campaign, there is also the issue of his arrests quite a few years ago, and why he refuses to release the reports.

You mean like Webb who wanted to get in a car with a guns and go into the ghettos and shoot Blacks or the guy who has pissed off all women in the state of Va. with the exception of my friend aps by his outrageous comments about women? Did you know this is a web site for women to tell them not to vote for theis prejudice SOB?

Or how about the Webb that likes to write dirty books about incest.......

You got a real winner my friend........

WE already discussed the comments about women NP, you cut and ran from that one. Want to start all over? All these negative portrayls against webb thus far have only backfired on the shmuck Allen. Macaca is not a word you just "make up" on the fly.

Proof?

Yes VA would have a real winner with anyone other than Allen. Voting for the same miserable excuse of a lowlife to represents gaurentees that you're goint to get a miserable excuse of a low life as representation of who you are.
Not to mention a mindless miserable Bushnevick c0cksucking kiss *** one at that.

jfuh, some of the people like the fact that he is a racist. And this doesn't apply in just Virginia. Why do you think they did that ad in Tennessee where they showed a white woman flirting with Harold Ford? To get the racists to come out and vote.

I would be absolutely elated if Webb beat Allen.

It's not surprising to see that Navy Pride, with his back against to the wall, with his phoney little Republican world crumbling all around him resort to the very same tactics that his national party is adapting, namely smear tactics that are not based in anything close to fact and that only prove how ammoral he and the GOP who produce ads that attack are.

How sickening is it to see NP resort to writing that Senator to be Jim Webb wants to kill Blacks....and to actually believe what he wrote, that, to me is the most disgusting part of Navy Pride's post. He believes the lies that he writes.

Did you know that Webb is the only member running for Congress or in Congress that actually has a son in Iraq, today? Did you also know that he won the Silver Cross in Vietnam, one of the most prestigious military medals anyone can win?

I must admit it is outstandingly hilarious to see NP squirm like this. It should be a really fun week as we get to next Tuesday. It sure seems like NP will have a rough week of posting around here if this post is any indication of his "mind" set.

:rofl OOOOOH....Dirty book writer! What an evil man. Hey Navy how come you're so worried? You've posted many times that Allen was a lock, that we could "take it to the bank" that Webb had no chance at all. That Allen is the GOP, that Allen is what makes the GOP who they are (actually I agree with that assessment, you know?)

Yeah, his books got terrible reviews from conservative magazines.

Conservatives should be embarrassed by Allen's last-minute sliming of Webb's books, since conservative critics have been among their biggest fans. In 2002 a writer for National Review, one of the nation's leading conservative publications, said Webb's "Fields of Fire" was "still the finest novel yet written about Vietnam." Reviewing Webb's novel "Lost Soldiers," a writer for the conservative Weekly Standard warmly praised the book's moral message and called it "an affecting and taut tale."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/30/AR2006103000826.html

Oh, and I believe John McCain endorsed "Lost Soldiers." Man-o-man are his books just dirty, dirty, dirty!!

Well for one thing I am one and live in one of the most Liberal states where there are more independents then there are republicans and they don't vote democratic or liberal.......I think you will find that a national trend no matter how much the liberal media lies about the polls.....

Sure, if I win you use Michael Savage as your AV for a week and I will use the AV of your choice if I lose...

Let me know if you agree to that....

1. Get your head out of the sand my friend its been all over the news.....

2. Maybe you think its nothing but the women that don't think their horny broads or think they are not capable of being in combat don't....You and Webb should know that a lot of women have died in Iraq too.......I guareentee his outrageous comments will bring out the female vote and it won't be for that woman hater Webb...

3. See number 1........

Did you know that Webb is not in congress and has never served there and has never held elected office?

Did you know that he only served for 7 months as the secretary of the navy until Reagan fired him?
