I in no way condone the comments that Tim Hardaway made about Gays but it really pisses me off by the outrage of the left and the politcally correct over the issue.......This guy is being chastized in the left wing media and the press for his comments.......What the **** happened to freedeom of speech and the first amendment? Oh wait, that only counts when it favors the left........

Navy Pride, Hardaway is being chastised in the exact same way the Dixie Chick were chastised (which you supported). Both of them have the right to say anything they want. And both have to live with the consequences. Hardaway is a grown man. He should know that his idiotic and predjudiced comments will get him in trouble. This isn't left or right. This is right or wrong and Hardaway was very wrong.

Nothing has happened to Freedom of Speech, it's still there. That doesn't mean you are free from the repercussions of your speech though.

Navy, no matter how you slice and dice it, hate is hate. It has nothing to do with left or right.

You know, there was a time when it was perfectly acceptable in some circles to preach hate because of someone's skin colour. Back in the 40s and 50s, some thought that blacks shouldn't play professional sports at all. Many fought it, but thankfully, acceptance became the norm. It's because of the people that fought for equal rights that enabled Hardaway to have the luxury of becoming a pro athlete.

Now it seems, he's pretty much doing the same. He should be downright ashamed of himself.

And Navy, I'm going to call you on what you wrote. Of course you condone his comments. You don't state that you're against something and add a "but." You're putting more blame on the left rather than to the man who uttered such hateful vile. And for that, you should be ashamed.

Impressive, most impressive. I always find it heroic when someone is brave enough to stand up against those he is often alligned with in the name of integrity and consistency.
 
This thread is related to the 'Is it OK to publicly state whom you dislike' thread. No law against Hardaway saying what he said; he was not arrested. But, words have consequences, and people may not react in positive ways to what you say. This is exactly what happened to him. If you don't care about the reaction, say what you want...if you do, think about the possible response, first.

One is the act of traitors on a foreign country..........The other is a comment about how he feels about a class of people who constantly try to compare their plight to the struggles that blacks went through in 400 years to gain equal rights.......

Funny when I look up traitor, speaking against the president isn't one of the definitions. Perhaps you are referring to Russia's definition of traitor?

Oh I forgot, In NP world, if you say anything against Bush, you are a traitor and if you bash gay people, that's ok.
 
Hardaway's commented that he wouldn't play with the other person on his team and would want them off. If I was a coach I would keep someone like that as far away from my team as possible, he would poison the team for his personal comfort.

You might be surprised how professional atheletes feel about showering and dressing with gays if the truth be told........

You notice gay atheletes don't come out of the closet until after their career is over..........

I know you think what they said was traitorous, but it wasn't. It was idiotic, to be sure, but it wasn't anything even close to traitorous. If it were, the would be behind bars now, which they aren't. You have to remember, NP, just because you don't like it (and neither did I), doesn't mean they don't have every right to say it.

Same with Hardaway. It was incredibly stupid and hishatred is evident, but it's a free country and he can say it if he wants.

Now, because of what they sai, you and I are free to boycott the Dixie Chicks and/or Hardaway. Our freedoms are the same as thiers.
