I get sick to my stomach thinking about the callous indifference to the environment even some Democrats have to the environment that they'd want to implement something like this. I think the environment is one area where it's okay to talk about pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps.

Maybe all the Bubbas and Jim Bobs out there can trade in their coal roller pickup trucks, bike to more places, use public transportation, and maybe get a Tesla or Chevy Volt.

They don’t make the Volt anymore.

The only reason is to ensure the profits of oil companies. So now you can see which politicians are advocating for these...

And maybe you could power down your laptop.

Yep, and lack trailer towing capacity.

Internet says:

2,000 Pounds

2019 Chevrolet Volt: Up to 2,000 Pounds (unofficially) Oct 4, 2021

2022 Tesla Model X/Towing capacity
5,000 lbs

Um, no, but it could easily be running on electricity generated by fossil fuels. You can't be too careful. After all, we're talking about saving the planet.

You know, I know, and you know I know that your #5 comment is bunk.

What does your absolute statement have to do with its supposed towing capacity?
I'm sorry, are we not talking about electric cars as an alternative to gas cars for environmental reasons? An electric car that costs ~$100,000 is not an alternative to a pickup truck nor a viable ecological solution. Electric cars as a solution to climate change is such a shitlib solution in the first place. We need broad societal systemic changes to combat climate change, not personal choice consumerism.

You're under the impression that personal transportation should and will go away? 🤨

Another chance for politicians to devise a bureaucratic miasma and claim credit for working miracles "for the people".

In cities, yes. In rural areas that is not feasible. We should invest heavily into public transportation and better urban planning. The commuter hellscape we live in is a prison of our own design.

I know it's not bunk, and so should you ...

Chuckle. Yours was and is a bunk argument. You found some hypocrisy and you're trying to exploit it, while also demanding perfection.

OK, but we have two 7000# GVWR trailers (600# tongue weight).

Cheaper electric cars are available.
There are plenty of small electric vehicles on sale.
Yes, but those have limited range. I personally occasionally have to drive 200+ miles one way occasionally for work reasons. A Nissan leaf (which can be found for around $7000 these days) only has like 70 miles of range. Electric cars with enough range to be used as your sole vehicle are in the $25,000-$40,000 price range currently.
