Gallup poll points to GOP rout - Richard E. Cohen - POLITICO.com

By RICHARD E. COHEN | 11/1/10 12:14 AM EDT Updated: 11/1/10 8:43 AM EDT
In a compelling sign that the Republican tide on Tuesday will produce a historic sweep in the House, the final pre-election poll by the Gallup Organization gave the GOP a 55 percent to 40 percent lead over Democrats among likely voters in its generic congressional ballot test.

The commanding 15-point advantage makes a Republican takeover “highly probable,” and could produce GOP gains “anywhere from 60 seats on up, with gains well beyond that possible,” according to the Gallup analysis released late Sunday.

Suicide watch Wed for the libs esp after just a two shorts years after the American people realize what a huge mistake they made and voted to fix it.

They reject the left wing liberal mantra....The left thinks the American people are stupid............Tomorrow they will be proven wrong.....How sweet it is..........

I plan to throw another log on the fire, open a bottle of wine I've been saving for a special occasion, and savor the show in HD. :lamo:lamo:lamo

60 seats is hardly "historic".

You realize right that Congress has had a majority of Dems since 2006 right? Making it 6 years since the election in November is for the 2012 terms.

Whats funny is that if, and probably when, this election tomorrow the Republicans gain a slight majority in the House its going to be hailed as a total American rejection of Democrats. I guess it takes true denial to look at a 51%-60% majority and call it a total sweep.

There have been midterm swings of over 100 seats.

Yes, there have, but they're rare. Did you even look at the link. There hasn't been a swing of 60 seats for a very long time.

I give credit to the GOP. Great job guys, you somehow managed to turn the Auto Bailouts, The Stimulus bill, and Health care reform all into terrible monstrosities used by the Left in order to create a socialist government. Nevermind that the Auto Bailouts and Stimulus bill were for the most part successes and saved/created millions of jobs. The verdict is still out on health care, I'm amazed so many disapprove before it has even taken effect...

If the Republicans win all this means is that there is more Republicans to bash now. IOW everything stays the same except a letter change.

Based on what? Have you looked at unemployment lately?

What are you talking about? The congressmen elected tomorrow will take office in January of 2011. The democrats took control of congress in January of 2007, making it 4 years that they would have control if the republicans gain control in tomorrow's election.

On the topic that the OP presented, I think that if the republicans take office, it's less indicative of people voting against the democrats than it is people voting against the status quo. If things are going poorly, people assuming that leaving the same people in charge will cause them to continue to go poorly.

I would actually prefer to see the republicans gain a small majority in one house of congress and the democrats retain a small majority in the other.

Right 2011, my mistake.:doh

The on demand, what have you done for me today attitudes of Americans are going to ensure quick rapid turnover of Congress from here on out IMO. No party will ever enjoy a majority for decades anymore.

historic

a turnover of 60 would be the largest, by more than 10%, swing since the party of lincoln leveraged the roosevelt recession of 1937 to takeaway 71 seats in 1938 from the party of jackson

since 38, the biggest swing was newt, 1994, a gain of 54 reps

newt was historic

never has a modern american political enterprise fallen as far and as fast as barack hussein obama

he once had it all---both houses, a filibuster proof senate, a crisis his supporters saw as an opportunity, a mandate, an excited and inspired electorate proud of ITS historic achievement, an entire world hi fiving, a media thrilled...

look what he's brought you to

sorry

Wans't it a CBO estimate that said if the Stimulus/Auto Bailouts had not been passed we would be looking at a 13% or higher unemployment rate..don't quote me on that though.

Ridiculous. The last four presidents have all lost congress during their term in office. And Barak Obama still has a higher favorability compared to his predecesors.

If the Repubs don't create more jobs in the next year and a half and bring down the debt, guess whose going to win back the house and the presidency in 2012? Hint: it won't be Sarah Palin

You realize it was only two years ago that the democrats lead by Obama claimed the American people had spoken when they gained a majority in the senate and WH only for the American people to see what a huge mistake Obama was and plan to fix it and the people whom helped him.

This election is more about Obama than it is about the democrats.

socialist?

you might be going a bit far

anyway, whatever is the exact sentiment of the overwhelming number of your neighbors, you really can't blame em for feeling the way they do after having witnessed every misstep and pratfall this sputtering president has daily put on display

he's just so utterly incompetent

and, y'know, tuff times require a lot from leadership

he's just not up to it

he shouldn't have run

Nevermind that the Auto Bailouts and Stimulus bill were for the most part successes and saved/created millions of jobs.

then why does he never talk about em anymore

he spent about a half a week early this summer painting himself as the savior of autos but then the worst august in 30 years came down on car sales

housing is a disaster, no bottom in sight, millions more foreclosures coming, half those he hamp'ed have already redefaulted

he has no solution, what's his policy concerning real estate today?

why did the party PUNT on americans' 2011 tax bill, none of us YET knows what to expect?

he can't say the s-word anymore, it's obscene

Just don't call it a 'stimulus' - Alexander Burns - POLITICO.com

indications today are the fed is gonna do another HALF TRIL of securities

Fed Likely to Announce $500 Billion of Purchases, Survey Shows - Bloomberg

The verdict is still out on health care, I'm amazed so many disapprove before it has even taken effect...

we know what's in it, we read the links, literally 100's of em

y'know, ny times, wapo, cnn, ap, bloomberg, reuters...

there were probably TWO YEARS worth of em

with all due respect, you don't appear to have a lot of respect for the independent thought of your neighbors

it's your business, of course

Ridiculous

you're arguing with 60?

LOL!

it's a #

60 is greater than 54

american has not seen a turnover of 60 seats since 1938

If the Repubs don't create more jobs in the next year and a half and bring down the debt...

america's gonna blame the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES instead of the PRESIDENT?

LOL!

he's STILL chief exec, y'know

sorry
