Darfur administrative referendum came to honor the provision of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) that was finalized at the All Darfur Stakeholders Conference held in June, 2011.
Whatever the outcome of the referendum, the process itself will lay down a firm political, security and economic foundation.
It is a message to the international community that the region is no longer in need to the peace keeping force known as Unamid. The funds spent these troops had better be used to support development and the welfare of the Darfuri people.
This democratic right will send anther message to the rebels who ignited the war and sedition in the region that the people have opted to their will to determine how their region to be become as one region or divided into five states.
The people have said their word and added their voices to the government"s to parch up social fabric. They believe that the rebels have brought disaster and calamity with them.
Losing ground in the region due to the successive advance and victories by the Sudanese army, the remaining rebels have resorted to neighboring countries to work as mercenaries.
They have no room in the region. They have lost the battle and political gains as well when they refused to reach peaceful settlement of the crisis through negotiation.
To ensure free voting and transparency, the government has deployed monitors from regional organizations and foreign countries, including the African Union and the Arab League.
