I am just curious as to what more left leaning or democrats in here think the leadership should be. So far I'm a firm believer in carrying out an Order 66 style slate clean. A Star Wars Episode 3 reference if you're wondering. ;)

Anyways here is who I believe should be in charge of the party as of now and why:

DNC Chair: Keith Ellison: An incredibly progressive person, first muslim to be elected to Congress, and holds alliances with senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. He most notably was laughed at by the panel at ABC's "This Week" for understanding that there was a great possibility that Trump could win the nomination, and ultimately the presidency. He's an advocate for helping people understand Muslims better, fair credit practices, raising the minimum wage, and more fairness for blue collar workers of all races.

House Minority Leader: Tim Ryan: A representative of much of my family in the Akron/Canton/Youngstown area he has proved he will work with Republicans and vote for legislation they introduce when it helps out his largely blue collar constituency. With a mix of centrist, conservative, and progressive views, Ryan would be a good choice to represent and broker in the house. He has formerly challenged minority leader Nancy Pelosi for the position. Pelosi's own constituency is in stark contrast of that of Ryan, representing mostly San Francisco and the area around it, seen largely by blue collar folk like myself as a reason to be weary about the future due to automation.

Bernie Sanders: Widely assumed to be running for president again in 2020, I would say have him replace Harry Reid as Senate Minority leader if not for this fact. In the meantime he has had a large influence on the direction of the Democratic Party and has actively been engaged in pushing the party towards more progressive ideas. Currently he serves as "Chairman of Outreach" a mostly superficial position that basically means "You were right about the working class and we were wrong". Sanders has a very direct approach when it comes to public speaking, and arguably has a bigger populist movement around him than the President-Elect. He has repeatedly expressed interest in working with Donald Trump on matters where their interest intersect, such as helping blue collar workers.

Elizabeth Warren: Serving as Vice Chair of Conference, like Sanders I would say have her as a possibility to replace Reid as well but she is also expected to run for president in 2020. A huge advocate for American consumer protection and arguably, the biggest influencer in the area, despite backing Clinton's bid for presidency she has been strong allies with Sanders in the past. Like Sanders she is also a very good public speaker, and has been known to rattle the President-Elect and has vowed to do what she can to block any legislation that would dissolve consumer protections.

So this is just my two cents, and these are quite frankly, the only ones I can think of right now that represent the direction the party must go. Thoughts?

snip?

Trump just won a stunning victory for the R party by running to the center, and he is going to govern from the center as well more than likely to great popularity, and you think that the answer is for the D's to run far to the left?

Ya, good luck with that.

The Democrats are filled with shills and gutless cowards.

Goodness sakes. Bernie Sanders running in 2020 at 80-years old?

Trump didn't run on Republican or Democrat principles, he ran on American principles. He fought for the average working stiff, the people the Democrats have forgotten.

It was stunning in the idea that the blue wall was destroyed, not stunning in he lost the popular vote, won those states by slim margins. And Trump isn't trying to govern from the center or is he? Do you seriously know? Because I don't think anybody does. The only consistent thing he has said since winning is he wants to concentrate on infrastructure, something that Republicans aren't into but democrats are, hence the olive branch offered to make sure such legislation would get passed. He also wants to pay for this infrastructure I guess by making cracked out trickle down theories work somehow? I dunno. Trump is a wildcard. And as for going further left, going further left, otherwise not compromising is what seems to have apparently worked for the "Republican" president-elect. Americans seem to need radical change every 4-8 years now. Bernie would have easily destroyed Trump.

Tell you what, this might just turn out with the R's being the common sense party, and the D's the DRIVING TO UTOPIA party.

I think that I know who wins that fight.

He'd be 79. Whats wrong with that? And no, Trump pandered. He ran on no principles at all. It's very hard to actually pin down what he wants at any given moment. I don't think that Democrats as a whole have ever given up on the working man. In my state of Kentucky, state wise we are majority democrat controlled, federally and our governor are Republican controlled. I think its a case of bad messaging, and several other factors. But I do agree that blue collar folk like myself were more easily tapped into by Trump.

Well here is the key difference in how each losing party approached the incoming President-Elect. My own senator from Kentucky said that his main goal was to block the incoming president-elect. Then when government wasn't working 8 years later he blamed everyone but himself. On the flip side you have my party saying that hey, we will work with Trump where it includes all Americans, and especially helps out the middle and working class. Do you see the difference there?

The D's dont offer any change, all they got is the promise of more candy handouts as they run around selling this Victim Culture that most of us officially had enough of when we discovered that 20ish year old University students, allegedly our best and brightest because this tends to happen at the "better" schools, need safe spaces because they are allergic to both reality and standing up for what they believe. We for sure had enough with the constant protests of the result of a free and fair election because their preferred candidate did not win.

More candy and more victim culture is exactly more of the same.

The country does not want it.

Remember the days when the democratic party was the party of young people and they loved bragging about how young Bill was? Yeah, I was only a kid then, but I remember those days. It's funny how that same party is now the old as dirt party.

Your argument fails because the President is the boss, and we upgraded from a supreme prick who can barely stand to work with anyone and who does poor work to a Trump who will work with anyone and who tends to do a great job.

Obama: "THey did not do what I told them to do, they suck, I am done with them"
TRUMP: "What do I need to do to get a deal done to solve the problem"

I think what you need to concentrate on is that you and I aren't so different. I'm a democrat. As far as I'm concerned, the only safe space is your house and a weapon. The concept itself confuses me. But to excuse the democrats would be to excuse the President-Elect. They have tried to push more infrastructure legislation through and at every stop have been been blocked. Trump also wants to keep a lot of the best parts of Obamacare. Something that every Republican fought forever. Now they are saying their ok with keeping parts of it. The butchering of Obamacare will not happen, simply modification, which would have happened regardless of who won.

The irony of his age is not lost on me. But he has held these views for quite sometime, it's just taken America awhile to catch up to them.

Hillary Clinton pandered to 50% of the country with her "women better vote for me" message.

I am not an R jsyk. I call myself a Zen Socialist who supports the rebellion against the Elite class, on the grounds of incompetence and moral inadequacy.

I have Trump sized up as the likely modern FDR, coming in after the confidence in the elite was ruined by elite mismanagement to clean house.

I've been away from this place for to long. I'm going to allow it.

I don't think you know what the word "pandering" means.

I think he does. Without pandering exactly what would Democrats have to say?

And if we buy Frank's premises, we have to contemplate the possibility that it is now the Democrats, the party of money and privilege, who are hard at work getting working-class voters to vote against their interests for the benefit of the aristocracy.
How identity politics blew up in Democrats' faces

Becoming the DRIVING TO UTOPIA party would not represent an upgrade.

When obama took office democrats controlled the house and senate

Now 8 years later under obama you control nothing

And the 2016 election proves that the left has learned nothing from its failures

One thing I think besides jobs and infrastructure I think would be very attractive to voters young and old is the legalization of marijuana. If the democrats used that as a main issue say in 2018, they could get control of the senate.

Marijuana reform ballots do better in Pres election years, I would not count on too many of these ballots being in place for 2018, NORML and MPP concentrate there efforts on 2020. Well done Mass, home of the American Revolution, and now the first State on the East Coast to see sense on cannabis reform. Enough so I left TX in the rear mirror, hello Mass!!

Making a point to express interest in legalization though could be beneficial to candidates.
