Yes folks, it really was after all, only for the Oil.
THis begs the question, will the Iraqi Government, once it manages to fully gain control of the country simply do that which Iran and Saudi Arabia did, meaning Re-Nationalize the Oil and then re-negotiate any agreements signed up at the present.
Russia has done this with it's various Mineral resources, where initially it needed western expertise in getting it out of the ground, ME is no different.

I've been reading Armed Madhouse by Greg Palast, and it goes into some of the same things. Originally, the neo-cons had it out with Colin Powell and the big oil guys as to whether or not the wells should be privatized. Big oil said "no" because they remembered past instances where their investments later became renationalized. They were fine just making record profits. The book also goes into the setting up of the new government, Paul Bremer is a great human being as is James Baker. Too bad more Americans don't realize that we have been and continue to be swindled. :( :doh
