A lot of people went gaga over the “Pet Sounds” album of The Beach Boys, but I still prefer their original “surfin’ sound”. The video below is “Fun Fun Fun” from 1964. It was a good song from Brian because it tells a story of Daddy giving his T-Bird to his daughter but he eventually “gets wise to her” that she’s not actually going to the library “like she told her old man”. They all look like they are having such a good time, especially Brian as it was prior to his infamous breakdown. I especially like when they are playing down near the end and he does a falsetto “WEEEE weeeeeee” in tune with the music. Pretty neat.

And, of course, we all know the anecdotes like their very controlling father actually wanting them to be the West Coast version of the Kingston Trio, which is why they wore matching Kingston Trio-type striped shirts for awhile and sang a Kingston Trio-type song like “The Sloop John B”. And Dennis having a fist fight with his father. Anyway:

I was flipping through the dial last week and hit an old movie called "Shampoo." But during the ending credits they played this Beach Boys song, which I like a lot . . .

And Mike Love chewing gum in between singing....

I always loved "Sleep Walking", by Richie Valens.
