Is it just me or do pop ads piss EVERYONE off? And its not just popups...its the websites that includes images and links that move as your mouse hovers over them to divert you to an advertisement site or that you have to click to get rid of them so you can read the articles. Is there ANYONE that would try to open an article only to get add bombed to another site that then stops and thinks "say...I sure am glad that happened....I might just have to rush out to buy their product!"?

I hate getting pop up ads, too. I especially hate the ones that have the fake "X's" in the corner, and they trick into clicking on their link.

You are right!

And self-starting videos *with sound* are especially annoying! :doh

Sick of all of it, but divergent hijacking is my biggest peeve...click on an article you want to read and something else comes up. That and YouTube ads you can't advance through

Damn straight. And sometimes there are so many on the page you have to look around just to shut the suckers up. I'd love to be able to simply be a voice playing in the bedroom late at night of the **** that dreamed this up. "Pssst. I know it's late and you're trying to get some sleep, but have you ever thought about how nice it would be to have musical condoms? Yeah. Didn't think so, but now that I've mentioned it, here's a sample of what might be playing...Yeah. ZZ Top. I knew you'd like it...Here's "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"...

I have some addons to my web browser that blocks ads
, and by default have 'no popups' in my web browser.

Content needs to be paid for and I am not completely opposed to ads to get ur done, but man in America today just about every inch of our lives is overly polluted with ads. This whole business of advertisers being annoying to get attention I have talked about here at DP, like I mentioned a radio ad that gives out a phone number 7 times speaking really fast in a very annoying voice...when I hear that kind of crapola I try to remember the company or product so that I can make sure that they never get my money. I need more beauty in my life, I have plenty of ugly already, I have no interest in promoting the creation of more ugly.

I seem to have figured out how to use Firefox pop up blocker, as your post reminded me that I had that problem once too. Once, I crashed the computer in panic, the ads were coming so fast I thought I had been hacked. Now, I only have a problem with certain areas. I get a lot of diversion. Click on a YouTube oldie and "bam' you are suddenly treated to a new concept in "love making". And then, there are some many boxes with so many x's, you have to tolerate the crap while figuring how to get out.

This Mac I have handles a lot of it without my help, but not the most annoying ones. They seem to get through, and they're the very ones hardest to delete. Once you get to a certain point, they ask, "Are you sure?". At that point I'm ready to stab the sumbitch with a soldering iron. These people that create this stuff should be locked in a room and forced to listen to Alex Jones for 24 hours. Have you ever heard him? All I have to hear is a few words from that guy and I'm invariably thinking about him saying to his little daughter, "Good night sweetie. Sleep tight. And don't let your legs hang over the edge of the bed because there are crocodiles under there just waiting...."

Nope. Never see them. Turn on popup blocking in your browser and get an ad blocker.

If a place has content I want to support, and their ads are not too annoying, you can turn ad blockers off for individual sites. If the ads are too distracting, then there is an issue with the way things are designed, and they can lose revenue

AdBlock Plus.
Done.
Seconded. Sometimes I even forget the Internet has ads. Then people complain about them and I remember why I installed Adblock Plus. Not only for ads, but for malware protection as well.

Hate to be mean to sites that rely on advertising, but it's just gotten too much.
Cut it all out and be done it with it.

I run multiple websites and I don't use advertising on any of them. Granted, my viewership can probably be counted on two hands for one of them, but I have just never believed the Internet has to be so much about money grabbing. And no, I have absolutely no problem with more sites offering less "content" in exchange for less advertising.

I recently reset a laptop that was giving me trouble. I thought I'd give Firefox a try. I hadn't used it for years, had a major problem with it a few years ago and never looked back. Anyhoo, on some web pages it has something called "reader view". Pretty cool, just loads the text of what you're trying to read, no ads, no popups. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-reader-view-clutter-free-web-pages

I don't. They choose their business models and have to deal with the consequences thereof. They can always change their model. The reason that ad blockers and popup blockers exist at all is because online advertising has become so toxic and obnoxious. If they hadn't gotten bad, nobody would have cared. Put the blame where it belongs.

NoScript is a good addition to Adblock Plus for Firefox. It can be a little annoying to get set up at first, as it will break a lot of functionality on a lot of sites. But with a little experimentation you can figure out what a website needs to function and everything else will get blocked

Popup blocker has helped me, but not cured it. The thing I hate more is the overuse of flash. Flash video is actually good, but using flash video for every single part of your website makes it so slow even the highest end gaming pc's start straining trying to process every single flash ad. It used to just be porn sites, more and more it seems like every site.

Fir example lowes and home depot use enough flashy stuf that my computer locks up every time I visit their site. It should not take more processor to browse a web page than it does to play a modern video game.

There's a new trend: sites that will not load unless you turn off ad-blockers and pop-up blockers.

Then they don't need my business at all. I go elsewhere.
