Free electricity for Peru's poorest

Energy and Mining Minister Jorge Merino said, “This program is aimed at the poorest people, those who lack access to electric lighting and still use oil lamps, spending their own resources to pay for fuels that harm their health.”

Very far sighted move by Peru, this is not like Chile where copper overproduction means the Chilean govt has to donate excess solar electricity but is a genuine attempt to make the lives of its citizens better.

About time more such countries with an abundance of sunshine followed suit.

Gotta wonder why the worlds 4th largest Gold exporter hasnt seen more of a trickle down effect.
