France set to blow up Nord Stream 2 pipeline deal

"In other news, it appears the Yellow Vests have suddenly reappeared with surprisingly ardent fervor..."

I agree. Nordstream-2 is unnecessary and provides Putin with an energy cudgel.
........and all the hysteria over then being forced to replace it all with Trump's filthy and (more importantly) expensive fracking stuff is a load of hype as well.

There are other sources and Germany's dependence on Russian gas in its overall energy balance is at best minimal anyway.

Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder sits on the Nordstream-2 board is would make millions from the deal. He is also a paid lobbyist for Russia's Gazprom.

I can't quite fathom why Europe would want to help finance the militarization of its foremost adversary.

Germany’s energy mix, because gas accounts for around 23% of Germany’s primary energy use.

and not even that is all from Russia.

In fact one can put Russia's share of (in) Gremany's energy mix more at around 11 pct.

Me neither.

Having worked in Germany (and thus lived there) I've closely encountered a wide-spread German take. Along the lines of "Let's ferchrissake stay out of politics, pursue business chances instead and if the going gets rough, we can always pull the NATO card."

Not anything to go broad-brushing about by any means but a popular stance in certain parts of the political and business establishment.

Meanwhile the sanctions that Germany participates in against Russia hurt no one. In Germany, that is.

But things appear to be pulling around in the spreading realisation that where the old cold war may be over, there's a new one going full tilt already.

Germany's traditional distrust of the Kremlin finding rejuvenation.

which is a lot . + schroederisation of German ans EU politic

Oh well. No blow-up .... yet. NS-2 is still on track under German negotiation leadership with slightly tighter restrictions agreed to by Paris and Berlin. With the Turk Stream project and NS-2 going forward Russia is cutting Ukraine out of the pipeline process and Ametican LNG will not likely make big inroads into Europe either. Norway may still be an option but it seems that Europe will become more interconnected with Russia vis a vis energy nonetheless.

Poland and the Baltic states are slowly increasing their independence from Russian imports. It is a process because all of these nations were "hardwired" into the Soviet energy supply system. Finland is also weaning itself from Russian gas (64% of imported gas).

How is he 'lying'?

You started a thread celebrating France 'blowing up' NS2.

Manifestly that has not happened. But yet you deny reality and accuse others of lying

even you know that NS2 will never be ...

You might want to acquaint Litwin with that before he embarrasses you further ;)

Embarrasses me?

As a Russian, you should be too embarrassed to even show yourself in this Europe forum.

From what I understand, Germany and France reached a compromise. The EU would retain oversight of such non-EU projects, but not have the ability to kill them. In return France will get German support for French President Emmanuel Macron's ideas for Eurozone budget and debt system reforms.

I would love to hear a rationale from a Trump supporter on why the Trump administration has not imposed sanctions as threatened on the Nordstream-2 consortium.....

Gazprom - 51%
Wintershall - 15.5%
PEG Infrastruktur AG, a subsidiary of Uniper - 15.5%
N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie - 9%
Engie - 9%

and the main consortium Board members.....

Gerhard Schröder, former Chancellor of Germany, former Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, Chairman of the Board
Oleg Aksyutin, head of the Gas Transportation, Underground Storage and Utilization Department of Gazprom
Alexander Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Gazprom
Hans-Ulrich Engel, Member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE
Han Fennema, Chairman of the Executive Board, CEO of N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie
Isabelle Kocher, Chief Executive Officer of Engie
Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom
Mario Mehren, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wintershall
Pavel Oderov, Head of Department of Gazprom
Marc Spieker, Member of the Board of Management of E.ON
Johannes Teyssen, Chairman of the Board of Management of E.ON
Alexey Zagorovskiy - Nordstream-2 Managing Director

I presume that you're a very slow learner

The answer to your question is that, not just do sanction not work in general, but imposing them on businesses and individuals of your supposed 'allies' is a recipe to alienate everybody.

Notable that the US seems to think that it can impose its will on the entire world through sanctions. Did you give up with bombing and invading and go for a slightly less catastrophic policy instead?

Trump has already alienated the Europeans. You're a slow learner.
