Factory jobs will come back with Trump!!! MAGA!!!! Build the Wall. Trump = Art of BS

A top executive at Foxconn told Reuters that the company determined a US plant "can't compete" with lower-cost flat panel plants elsewhere in the world.
Louis Woo, special assistant to Foxconn CEO Terry Gou, told Reuters that the company now planned to create a "technology hub" in Wisconsin rather than a factory. That would largely consist of research facilities along with some packaging and assembly operations. Woo said three-quarters of Foxconn's eventual jobs will be in research and development and design, not blue-collar manufacturing jobs. He said it will not be a factory.

Foxconn instead plans to build a techhub for Wisconsin instead, which means those factory workers are likely still going to be out of a job, and those jobs instead will be given to Millennials.

To be fair, a tech hub is a good things, will bring higher paying jobs. Granted, the factory workers without the skills for the tech jobs will struggle. But the reality is, just like coal, those jobs are likely to not come back. Definitely not traditional manufacturing jobs

Yeah I'm interested in the techhub. My hometown built one out of an old IBM building which used to house supercomputers. It's pretty neat and all the workers live either right on premises or a mile or two away in town. But the jobs are mostly high tech skilled jobs like senior engineers working on AI or automation projects, so I've seen.

Frankly, I thought the plan to build a plant in Wisconsin to build displays didn't make a lot of economic sense. Considering that Wisconsin's unemployment rate stands at 3%, where were they going to find the people to man it:

Foxconn Technolog Group is considering bringing in personnel from China to help staff a large facility under construction in southern Wisconsin as it struggles to find engineers and other workers in one of the tightest labor markets in the U.S. :doh

Foxconn Wisconsin Plant Having Trouble Hiring Wisconsinites

Wisconsin is already a great!

Foxconn has a Rep for taking the money and running. Looks like they've done it again. The 1 good thing is it cost Walker his job.

The Guardian

Foxconn itself has been more circumspect on the number of jobs it will create, saying in a press release it will “create 3,000 jobs with the potential to grow to 13,000 new jobs”. Even if 13,000 new jobs are created, Wisconsin would be paying $346,153 per job at a subsidy of $4.5bn. An astronomical sum, but nothing compared to the $1.5m per job cost if the deal ends up creating just 3,000 new positions.

They lost their ass on this deal.

If Foxconn is seriously considering that tack, its executives have from China's political leaders and government execs received material input militating for not doing so. I don't know what specifically that input'd be, but I know the Chinese "play Go" (they coherently devise and execute tactics in support of well conceived strategy) and that Foxconn's execs, like those at Huawei, are extremely well connected to Chairman Xi and his governmental lieutenants.

That's the "polite" way to say what is clear to all but Trump and his Trumpkins: The global market for flat screens is such that the days of the US' demand-side dominance are numbered and that number doesn't yield enough ROI in return for building a factory in the US.

They can go to work in the six new steel plants trump claims will be built.

No, U.S. Steel is not opening six new mills as Donald Trump said | PolitiFact
