Fox News stands with CNN: ‘Passes for working White House journalists should never be weaponized’

FOX is joining CNN's lawsuit against the White House via a "friend of the court" (amicus) brief. I give FOX due credit for this stance.

As FOX notes, neither Donald Trump nor Sarah Sanders should ever weaponize media access to the President/White House/WH pressers.

Better late than never.

But...What took them so long? This was a no-brainer, even for them. Surely they had to see the handwriting was on the wall for them, after 2020.

CNN has a right to report the news and get close as long as they respect the rules of the room. Acosta has no special birthright to the pass.

Obviously, FOX disagrees with you.

Explain that.

It surprises me how many people act like CNN or Acosta was robbed of their 1A rights. Getting into the most secured building in the world and being allowed to ask questions of the top office and his advisers is a privilege. He is still free to write whatever the hell he wants and CNN is free to send someone professional to take his place.

He was rude. The only reason the intern was trying to get to the mic is that he had asked and been answered. Other reporters wanted their turn. He kept going.

There is no magical protection from civility granted by a press pass. Acosta likes to try to become the story instead of tell one.

The most powerful thing CNN could do is send someone in who asks the right questions and doesn't act rude to everyone else. Then they can say they are more interested in the truth than protecting a jackass.

Acosta did nothing wrong and even since CNN sued the whitehouse, the whitehouse backed off saying he contacted the intern. Acosta got tossed because the orange snowflake got his feelers hurt due to not wanting to hear questions.

If I remember correctly, it was because Obama didn't consider Fox News an actual news organization. To be honest, most others don't, either. But yeah, that plug was pulled pretty quickly.

No president should pull press passes. None of them.

Why not?

This is the most awkward appeal to authority I have ever seen. In 99% of the other times you would be saying that its Fox News so the truth is exactly opposite of what they say.

You don't get to silence the messenger, just because you don't like the message.

But they are given to only certain individuals. So do you think that anyone should be able to get one? Or once you get one it should be in place till you stop reporting?

Again - you don't get to silence the messenger because you don't like his message, and Trump is trying to do that with Acosta. Others are in the hopper, too. He should not be able to block someone's ability to question him, just because he doesn't like their line of questioning.

And no, not anyone should be able to get a press pass, but once you have one, it should only be removed in the most egregious of offenses. All Acosta did was make Trump look like a chump, and that pissed him off. That's why he wanted his mic pulled.

So is this based on any laws or laws you would like to be introduced, or just the general good nature of governmental employees and their interactions with news media?

Judas Priest, journalists are supposed to report, not be "messengers". It's really sad that the Left no longer even expects journalistic integrity and objectivity.

Of course Fox supports CNN. They know exactly what it's like to be targeted, cut off, left out, shunned and have the DOJ used as an attack dog. Under Obama, of course.

99% of the time, FOX carries Trump's water to a degree never before seen in D.C. journalism.

They are only doing this because it is in their own best corporate interests, not because they are such great defenders of the Fourth Estate.

FOX news is smart to support CNN's lawsuit.

Very smart.

It does not want to lose its White House pass in 2020 when President H. Clinton / J. Biden / N. Pelosi / M. Waters moves into the executive mansion.
