Saying France and Europe in General doesn't have a Muslim problem is like saying America doesn't have an illegal immigration problem. It is at it's best unrealistic and at it's worse a crock of **** pushed by people who just love to lie to themselves. What happened in Europe when the cartoons of the Great Prophet Muhammad, All blessings be upon his name, were published? The extremist side of Islam came out and Europeans like always apologized. For what? For their right to freedom of speech. The same right you afford the extremist Muslims in your country. The same right they use to cheer for the enemies who have sworn to kill your women and children. Your Danish and Norwegian embassies were set on fire and what did you do? You apologized.
We appologized? How so?
We defended the right of our media to print or say whatever they wanted, but some politicans and people did not agree with what the media did. Is that appologizing? If memory serves me right, the US goverment and politicans did not agree with what the media did, but they also defended the right of the media to do so.. were they appologizing also?
Yes the Danish missions in certain countries were attacked and some burned. Each country where it happened in appologized to the Danes for letting it happen and have somewhat paid for the damages. We did not appologize one bit, we in fact condemed those who did it and the goverments who let them do it.... the only ones who did appologize or at best were very silent were the Danish companies who were being boycotted (which they are not anymore btw).
Europe does not have a large scale muslim problem, its a neo con anti Europe fantasy promoted by radical right wing shock jocks, politicans and the Fox News organisation. Its the usual right wing tactic of blaming others or inventing "issues" with others, so that you ignore your own problems.
But thats not saying we dont have problems with parts of the population that happen to be muslim, but also include christians and athiests and probally other faiths too. But the US has issues with various parts of its population, black and hispanic, and they are christian and muslim too. Does that mean you have a christian and muslim problem?
As Americans, we can pick and choose from many media outlets as to where we get our news from around the world and thusly be "informed." We mostly pick the channel that tells us what we wanna hear. And since perception is reality, our reality is largely based on the what the media thinks we should think and therefore too many of us hardly have a clue.
And that is the problem... the media tailoring their news to suit a demographic, because that demographic "likes" what its hearing. Not saying it dont happen in Europe, but not on the same scale.
And we in Europe probally have more News channels than the US has. To name a few, BBC 24, BBC World, Sky News, CNN Internation, Fox News, Euronews, France 24, Al Jazerra, Russia Today, CCTV and thats just the english language ones.. on top of that there are 2 or 3 German langauge, a few french, at least 2 spanish and so on. And thats News channels only.. then there are the national and local broadcasters who have news shows and so on. So dont think for a second that European media and espeically news is "controlled" or "few in numbers".
