I'm not sure how this is newsworthy..

FOXNews.com - U.S. Atheists Reportedly Using Hair Dryers to 'De-Baptize'

obviously just a funny joke they were doing but you won't hear that in the Article, and the title kind of seems to make it out that all Atheists do this "U.S. Atheists".

I'll leave you with some profound words of wisdom found in the articles comment section

"Remember it's freedom of religion. Not freedom from religion."

"To me, it's ridiculous to not believe in God or a higher power. The proof is everywhere!" (Oh really???)

"Ha Ha Geez. These people are SO STUPID!! They need to be in the water for it to work. Ha Ha!"

"How sad that they are stuck in that fourteen year old kid phase. Thinking it's cool to deny God. Maybe they'll someday be able to gain enough maturity to admit their mistake."

Notice how Dawkin's title is "Atheist"...Never mind he is an evolutionary biologist, Best selling author or Cambridge professor!

YouTube - Obama Wrong America Not Christian Nation?

I highly doubt that Obama actually believes in God, guys with his intelligence and education often are Agnostic or Atheist but to get any where politically in the U.S. you have to "believe" in God.

I'm sure stuff like this is in the other networks also, but Fox really puts a negative spin on Atheism. Fox is just a smartly run business though, The % of watchers that are Christian are probably staggering.

My Dad's a Liberal - doesn't watch Fox - he's a minister. . . a lot of black people are religious and few are Republicans. . .

So anywhoo . . .sounds like the "Shisms in Atheism" thing. . . all of which I'm sure Huckabee and Wright took waaay to seriously.

I actually thought Huckabee was going to make a sound and logic response in that one video until he said "they only believe in themselves." The liberal media is watched by a majority of Christians also, but I think what we see coming out from Fox though is a lot of fundamentalism. I'm pretty sure people like Huckabee and Palin are fundamentalist Christians.

Dawkins is a brillient man should be introduced as such.

Fox news is complete trash news. Fox is for idiots. End of story/coments..

All 24/7 talk news is trash news. . . all of it.

*frees you from your cage*

Just to make a point...here is the full story: Atheists Conduct De-Baptisms - ABC News

Notice the source of the story...

Edit: and continuing through your sources, Dawkins is on the show in his role as an outspoken atheist. The rest of his titles are irrelevant.

There are plenty of things to make fun of FOX for...this is not one of them.

De-baptizing sounds religious. I thought atheists weren't religious.

Watching fox new exclusively would give me that sentiment.

yeah I don't watch any news...I check cnn.com ocassionally but that's all.

There is a whole history of Fox belittling Atheists. Any time they use their own money to buy a sign, a billboard, an advert, Fox has some outraged pastor on and no Atheist in the debate. There are a few notable examples of interviews with atheists though, and by and large the atheists give them an intellectual ass kicking.

If I was a Christian the last person I would want to meet is Christopher Hitchens, lol. Crossing my fingers for a quick recovery.

Sounds about right.

And I agree that Fox knows its audience. Nothing really wrong with that.

I've always considered Atheism to be a religion. Now I'm convinced of it. People traveling miles to get De-Baptized ? Joke or not, it's absurd. If there is no god, and they truly believe this, then a baptism would have no meaning whatsoever. For them to want to de-baptize even as a symbolic jesture seems that maybe they are a bit more than non-believers, but maybe they are believers in the devil.
I know there are atheists on DP. What's your take on this de-baptism?

This is a common misconception of Atheism. Their lack of faith is suggested to be some absolutist faith when in fact it is based on empirical data. If you were somehow able to prove the existence of any said god then I'm quite sure they would have to change their view. They might not want to change that opinion but they would be forced to out of their own rational somehow haven proven them wrong. You can't call that blind faith as it is with religious. Science is only trial and error but they have learned a lot about the universe and the physics of it. Because the scientific method insists that theories are not absolute. The primary necessity of religion is blind absolutist faith.

I'm an Atheist and I think this is really just to get attention, kind of like the bibles for porn campaign a few years ago. Atheism is not a religion, I can tell you this because religions AGREE on basic tenants, trying to get a group of atheists to agree on something is about as easy as herding cats. There may be some people who fashion themselves as Atheist leaders or evangelists but they're just salesmen, I can assure you there is no organized Atheist "religion". Most are just like me, quiet people who don't believe in God and don't really care if anyone else does, as long as they don't shove it down our throats.

They're making fun of the Christian practice of baptizing with oily water. It's called mockery.

Read the ABC article. They didn't travel to get de-baptized. One of the speakers at a meeting of atheists was doing it as a joke. They don't take it seriously.

It was just a joke to a group gathered for a convention. They didn't travel to be de-baptized and if anyone in the crowd did then they are a moron.

if you twist the term religion to include atheism then damn near any group of people in the world is a religion. It's a silly notion.

Yes, an even the so called "leaders" are really just those who were lucky enough to sell many books regarding atheism or something like that. No atheist leader that I've ever heard of has declared providence.

Why is anyone suprised? Fox makes a big deal out of any atheist controversy, no matter how irrelevant
