The Four Fallacies of Abortion Discourse

h1Za3rk.png

1. That abortion does not end a human life

2. That abortion is not immoral

3. That abortion law is not just legal fictions

4. That abortion culture is not evil

A Note

The Avenging Angel represented here is

Pro-Life and Pro-Choice and Anti-Abortion

That is to say:

1. he recognizes every human being's natural right to life;
2. he recognizes every moral agent's freedom to make moral choices;
3. he deplores the widespread promotion of abortion to underwrite an irresponsible sexual culture.

Also...

The four fallacies listed above are all presented as negations;
therefore, if you wish to understand the truths contradicted by these fallacies,
then in each case simply remove the negation and read the positive assertion that remains.

Think.

Abortion is awesome! Long live abortion!

All I can say is you're entitled to your opinions on abortion, and if you're so certain of the existence of a God let him/her judge those who have an abortion.

You needed to quote the entire OP at #2 for that bon mot?
Do the right thing and delete or reduce the quote. Please.

Numbers 5:20-28

But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband”— 21 here the priest is to put the woman under this curse—“may the Lord cause you to become a curse[d] among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell. 22 May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries.

“‘Then the woman is to say, “Amen. So be it.”

23 “‘The priest is to write these curses on a scroll and then wash them off into the bitter water. 24 He shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and this water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering will enter her. 25 The priest is to take from her hands the grain offering for jealousy, wave it before the Lord and bring it to the altar. 26 The priest is then to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial[e] offering and burn it on the altar; after that, he is to have the woman drink the water. 27 If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse. 28 If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.

Seems the sky daddy approves of terminating certain pregnancies.

Why should any American who does not believe as you do follow (your interpretation of) His Word?

Just remove the word "That" and all is well.

The Four Fallacies of Abortion Discourse

It's amusing and beyond to declare something a fallacy when it's based on the "Word" of a mythical being.

While you pretend to only wish to "debate" His Word, you really want it imposed on women in America.

How rational is it to believe that a personal (but yes, shared by others) fantasy be imposed on other free people? A fantasy that would do direct harm to those free people (well, the women anyway).

Typical , they are your fallacies not those of pro choice. Once again you demonstrate that because you lack an intelligent argument to support your side the best you can do is make up pretend arguments about the other side.

#1, Dont lie. Pro-choicers clearly understand that abortion ends human life.

#2 An individual may believe abortion is immoral. The pro-choice side does not prevent someone from their personal morality. Abortion may be immoral to YOU and others. You are entitled to your point of view. Pro-choicers will not prevent you from having your view.

#3 What the hell is a legal fiction? Roe v Wade has settled quite a bit .Are you saying that the SCOTUS treats the Constitution as a fictional story?

#4 Lots of things are evil. You are entitled to your opinion. Who is stopping you from your personal belief that abortion is evil.

So it seems that you have failed again.

Wrong section?

All I can say is you're entitled to your opinions on abortion, and if you're so certain of the existence of a God let him/her judge those who have an abortion.

Exactly. If this whole thread is predicated upon the theology of abortion, doesn't it belong in the Theology section of DP? This is the Political Forums - Abortion segment. & so I expected a discussion of the politics of abortion.

Oy! This is too funny, or sad. The "angel" is "Angel" is me. Read better.

Look in the thread called Abortion 101; the argument you missed is there.

No, i missed nothing, these are your arguments not pro choice. It is you who make claims and then try to pretend that they are pro choice claims.

A Christian angel sharing God's Intent...yes or no?

You post four misunderstandings and my argument fails? That's unbeatable logic!

Wait a minute! Are you saying "Pro-Choice" is a registered trademark or some such? That no one may have his own Pro-Choice argument anymore? You missed the boat, it seems.

No, a guy from New York posting on DP under the username "Angel."

You are not a Christian?

From whence comes your claim of 'evil'? (And your signature and just about every post you've made in the Beliefs/Religion sub-forum).

Wait a minute! Are you saying "Pro-Choice" is a registered trademark or some such? That no one may have his own Pro-Choice argument anymore? You missed the boat, it seems.

Are you being deliberately ridiculous? You make up pretend arguments because you have none of your own.

If someone claiming to be pro choice did show up and make such lame arguments then other pro choice would be very quick to point out the stupidity of that. We do not need to rely on such poor reasoning. You however have no choice but to make up such poorly reasoned arguments because you lack even one good reason to support your side.

You post four misunderstandings and my argument fails? That's unbeatable logic!

Start with number one.

Apparently YOU falsely believe that prochoicers believe that abortion does not end human life.

FInd me someone on the prochoice side that believes the fetus is not living.

Start there.
