Four Cuban Medics Defect in Chile
Latin American Herald Tribune - Four Cuban Medics Defect in Chile

EFE, November 19, 2010

SANTIAGO – Four members of a Cuban medical delegation that went to Chile on an aid mission after the Feb. 27 earthquake left the group to remain in the Andean nation, Chilean Foreign Minister Alfredo Moreno said Friday.

The defectors belonged to the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade, made up of 72 volunteers who worked in field hospitals in Rancagua and Chillan, and who this Friday returned to the island.

The four Cubans “have not sought asylum or protection, they have simply chosen to stay here to try and work in Chile,” Moreno said.
Four Cuban "commodity" doctors managed to escape their trader master when he sent them to work for peanuts in Chile.

The Chilean government and the Cuban doctors that defected are being extremely careful not to label this a defection, but when somebody escapes from a dictatorial regime nevertheless it is defection.

Many believe that the United States is the only goal for those people trapped in Cuba but in fact fact they will attempt escape to anywhere. There are many of them here in Central America also.

Many of the Cuban doctors that accept to work overseas do so as a way to escape from the miserable life in the island. But in many of those countries the doctors find out they are imprisoned in their new assignments. They are send to work in remote communities and restricted means of transportation, and under surveillance all the time. If there are changes in their plans not consistent with the regime guidelines would normally lead to involvement of the police. Because they live their lives in servitude to work in those countries, many doctors in such medical missions defect to freedom. About 8,000 health workers, many of them physicians, have left Cuba in the last ten years.

Supposedly the Cuban health workers volunteer for those assignments. The term volunteer has different meanings in different countries. In a free society it means to give of oneself without expecting much in material returns. In the Castro brothers’ regime, a police stated, the meaning is do what is expected of you or else. I remember when Fidel Castro would line people who disagreed with him up against the wall. The left should keep that in mind, do not ignore history.

How about when the U.S. endorsed regime immediately preceding castro shoved hot irons into woman's vaginas? Come on. "The left should keep that in mind". Like we are all conformists and approve of the same regimes or something? lol?!

Have you ever seen a herd of leftists stampeding across the land? A cloud of dust behind them, and a cliff before them.

Wait just a damn minute, this must be a mistake. I wold have sworn that Michael (who won't fit in a normal sized car) Moore said the Cuba has a great universal health system that is the best ever. Why would anyone ever want to leave such a lovely place with such a medical establishment?

This is a very serious accusation. Can you prove it?

The Cuban regime can do the job for ways less than Doctors Without Borders. Without over head to pay for doctors, and keeping 90% of their earnings, how can it lose? When you want to buy something you have to work to pay for it. Anyone that takes that money away from you without fair compensation means you've been working against your will, that you’re enslaved. I wonder if Michael Moore, self appointed champion of the little man, would do something about this.

the US shouldn't sanction Cuba so much, these doctors wouldn't lead such miserable lives.

The Castro brothers shouldn't sanction Cuba's doctors so much, these doctors wouldn't lead such miserable live. Cuban doctors are paid $25 per month, which don’t cover their basic needs. Because of the low salaries they seek jobs in those places that offer the opportunity to earn dollars, like the tourism industry. Since a great number of doctors are working oversees and others have quit their profession for more lucrative jobs, there is an actual shortage in the island.

Are you sure you're not mixing this up with Castro's sadistic buddy Che Guevara? Ok.. Che was a modern Cuban humanitarian.

Interview’s guest today is Cuban-born Humberto Fontova, who left Cuba in 1961 at age seven, has written for several conservative magazines and is the author of Fidel: Hollywood's Favorite Tyrant.

We're talking about a regime that jailed more political prisoners (as a percentage of population) than Stalin's and for twice as long; that murdered more people (in absolute numbers) during its first three years in power than Hitler's regime murdered in it's first six; that drove out 20 percent of the population from a nation formerly inundated with immigrants.

Che Guevara, as his chief executioner, relished the slaughter. You could see it in his face as he watched men yanked from their cells and tied to the execution stake."

Che also loved toying with the distraught and sobbing mothers who came into his La Cabana office to plead for their (innocent) son's lives. He loved to pick up the phone right in front of them and bark" "Execute the Fernandez (or whoever) boy tonight!" As Mr Martin-Perez concluded: "There was something seriously, seriously wrong with Che Guevara." Alas, Che's sadism found a useful outlet as Castro's chief hangman.

It is a paradise for foreigners, members of the power elite and top military that have an exclusive health care system, which offers excellent medical care with the best resources and optimal conditions. This system is out of bounds for the common Cuban citizen.

Also, and as a result of official policy, there have been programs and medical services that have been terminated, such as the Program of the Family Doctor and Nurse, in order to satisfy the massive export plans of health professionals, as well as donations made to other countries of drugs and medical resources, which regular Cubans do not have available. This has a double purpose, to obtain hard currency and gain political support.

Can you give the actual number statistics of how many were killed in his regime? Also I would like a quote of how Che expressed how he relished in the slaughter instead of some totally slanted supposed eye witness account.

4 doctors... the first of dozens and dozens of thousands of them in south america it seems. There are more communist defectors in America.

“To send men to the firing squad, judicial proof is unnecessary. These procedures are an archaic bourgeois detail. This is a revolution! And a revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate.” – Che Guevara

I see no difference in a person who idolizes Mao Zedong, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot or Che Guevara.

A little more on the "hero" of some....Che.

But once there was a real Che Guevara: he is less well known than the fictional puppet that has replaced reality. The true Che was a more significant figure than his fictional clone, for he was the incarnation of what revolution and Marxism really meant in the twentieth century.

Che was no humanist. No communist leader, indeed, ever held humanist values. Karl Marx certainly was not one. True to their movement's founding prophet, Stalin, Mao, Castro, and Che held no respect for life. Blood needed to be shed if a better world was to be baptized. When criticized by one of his early companions for the death of millions during the Chinese revolution, Mao observed that countless Chinese die everyday, so what did it matter?

Likewise, Che could kill with a shrug. Trained as a medical doctor in Argentina, he chose not to save lives but to suppress them. After he seized power, Che put to death five hundred "enemies" of the revolution without trial, or even much discrimination.

Castro, no humanist himself, did his best to neutralize Guevara by appointing him Minister for Industry. As could be expected, Che applied Soviet policies to the Cubans: agriculture was destroyed and ghost factories dotted the landscape. He did not care about Cuba's economy or its people: his purpose was to pursue revolution for its own sake, whatever it meant, like art for art's sake.

Indeed, without his ideology, Che would have been nothing more than another serial killer. Ideological sloganeering allowed him to kill in larger numbers than any serial killer could imagine, and all in the name of justice. Five centuries ago, Che probably would have been one of those priest/soldiers exterminating Latin America's natives in the name of God. In the name of History, Che, too, saw murder as a necessary tool of a noble cause.

But suppose we judge this Marxist hero by his own criteria: did he actually transform the world? The answer is yes - but for the worse. The communist Cuba he helped to forge is an undisputed and unmitigated failure, much more impoverished and much less free than it was before its "liberation." Despite the social reforms the left likes to trumpet about Cuba, its literacy rate was higher before Castro came to power, and racism against the black population was less pervasive. Indeed, Cuba's leaders today are far more likely to be white than they were in Batista's day.

The Real Che Guevara | Facts & Arts

Che Guevera is human trash burning in hell. Fitting place for the coward that when captured didn't stand with dignity and pride, but rather on his knees begged, "Don't kill me, I am more valuable to you alive!, Don't you know who I am?! I am Che...."

Coward.

The ruling class offers no solution to the problem of caring for the people's health because it doesn't have the capacity to do so, and at the same time it doesn't consider it a priority.

The regime inability is a result of the total failure of the totalitarian model, which is responsible for the increasing poverty and hardship of the population. It is commonly accepted the regime's economic disaster, lack of liquidity, productivity, the huge bureaucracy and corruption at all levels of government.

:coffeepap: Last I checked they were providing medical care to themselves and the Venezuelan poor en masse. Weird how they don't overthrow them or anything.
