lately, it seems like a lot of people will name-call, get moderated for it, and then complain that they shouldnt have been moderated sinse their statement was true.

I was thinking perhaps a statement could be added to the forums rules such as "being stupid isnt against the rules, calling someone stupid is".

As per the "Tips for debate" thread...

USE OF "IDIOT", "MORON", ETC. - Although they should never be used, frustration may rear its ugly head and a burst with words like these may slip out.

Depending on the situation, this may be moderated. The range for these words are from "lighthearted" to "outright attack", and discretion is used when weighing whether or not actions by the Moderation Team is warranted. One thing is certain. Re-occurring use, especially towards one member, will not be tolerated.

but there is also this:
DISCLAIMER - This is NOT meant to be a representation of DebatePolitics.com's official position on any issues. What is written here is one person's opinion...mine.

I am suggesting that it be added to the official forum rules.

Kind of has a ring to it.
The next time we revamp them puppies I'll see if it'll fit in somewhere. May have to revise it a bit. I'll revisit it later.

star2589, you got Simon thinking on it... lol - he won't stop until perfection.

This is a good idea IMO.

We just need to be careful and allow for discretion. Without it, a "rules creep" will rear it's ugly head - please add stupid to list of words not allowed in a name call, add dumb to list of words not allowed, add meanie, add liberal, add silly, add poopoo head ...it could go downhill and away from original idea fast.

This is a reason why our rules are somewhat vague.

You mean your rules are somewhat vauge? Of course, I would think you had a hand in creating them. And everybody makes mistakes at the keyboard. Your misspelling is forgiven. :)
