The quote: "This time,” he wrote, “we won’t look the other way on Coca-Cola’s $12 billion in back taxes owed. This time, when Major League Baseball lobbies to preserve its multibillion-dollar antitrust exception, we’ll say no thank you. This time, when Boeing asks for billions in corporate welfare, we’ll simply let the Export-Import Bank expire.”

The comment: Those who have read The Prince, by Niccolo Machiavelli will be struck by the basic tell-it-like-it-is honesty of both authors. Both give us a chance "to see oursels as others see us."*

“Announcing you will no longer take bribes isn’t the defense you think it is.”

That was the best part!

Washington's politicians remain the best counterargument to the Pollyanna-ish view of America promulgated by the AM radio 'conservative' talk show hosts as they stroke their 'true believers'*.

Regards, stay safe 'n well.

Okay...wait...

“It’s the part everyone knows: these crooks sell access,” Shaub tweeted. “Others have the sense not to admit it. This is why our republic is broken: Immoral politicians selling power we’ve entrusted to them like it’s theirs to sell.”

If everyone knows about this, then why is one guy corrupt for admitting it? Seems this "ethics" guy is okay with unethical behavior as long as nobody talks about it.

Although the MAGA movement was built almost entirely on political myths, bigotry, fearmongering and xenophobia, perhaps its most obviously dishonest aspect is the one in which Trump and his surrogates constantly told the rubes in their audiences that they were fighting corruption.

”Drain the swamp” was a tireless Trump slogan.

It was obvious from the very start, that not only was Trump not interested in draining swamps, but he was far more interested in cashing in on them, and filling his regieme with people who saw their role as harvesting the federal largesse and putting it in their pockets and those of their friends and donors.

The GOP has been the party of big corporate money since it was founded.

In the entire history of the Republican party, only two elected officials ever advanced the cause of campaign finance reform/

Teddy Roosevelt and John McCain.

The Roberts Court made it safe for big money to give unlimited amounts of money to third part pacs that finance political campaigns.

And those very same scam pacs were used by your fuhrer to drain the checkbooks of folks like you.

And the GOP is always the reliable opponant to any reform.

Now, here you are, defending the institutional corruption.

You can fool some of the people all of the time!
You never cared about “drain the swamp”.

And now that one of your heroes bluntly threatens his donors by “telling it like it is”, you defend the ”swamp”!

Because he threatened companies in a manner of public extortion.

I think part of the disconnect is that Trumpster actually believe that thuggish behavior, threats and bullying are real leadership.

They saw nothing wrong with Trump pushing out civil servants who didn’t tow his line.

And they didn’t (and don’t) care if he uses Russian intelligence to help him win an election or blackmail a world leader for dirt on an opponant.

Which happens all the time...in both directions. Company - politician, politician - company.

No...that's not what Shaub was complaining about.

Cruz is a piece of work. He should count his blessings that he has four more years before he has to face the voters of Texas again.

That is exactly what Shaub was complaining about it. He was very clear.

Usually it's giving to campaigns in return for political favors. That's common, and everyone knows that. But when you threaten to pull political favors because companies are taking stances against laws they disagree with, that's a different story. It is extortion.

Ted Cruz will end up being a cautionary tale of what happens to a person when they feel like they have far more power over people than they really do. His path to corruption will hopefully serve as a "what not to do" for future politicians. From bending over to Trump even after Trump completely eviscerated his entire family, to Cancun, and now to "if you don't play our way we won't do favors for you any more" admission. He is what the GOP has become.

FAIL

Ted Cruz is a joke.

Texas GOP voters are incredibly stupid. it's been shown over and over again. He will get all of their votes. The only hope is the youth and influx of newer immigrants to Texas will get out to vote against him.

did he say anything about the COVID welfare that Trump sent out?

1. It's unethical to accuse someone of doing something corrupt without evidence. While there's a lot of smoke in Washington, it's seldom you find someone admitting to starting a fire. This is one of those times.

2. Nowhere does Shaub say that he's OK with politicians being corrupt as long as they don't admit it. Actually, he seems to imply just the opposite: "This is why our republic is broken..."

3. Not all politicians are immoral scumbags. Ted Cruz is, however.

You seem to be a victim of the propagandists that lied about Trump and Trump-ism.

Ending bribery is now extortion.

Okay.

You are dismissed.

???

Ending bribery?

"If you do something we don't like (e.g., opposing recent election laws), we won't do favors for you."

Doesn't sound like ending bribery to me. Sounds exactly like bribery.

Bribery refers to the offering, giving, soliciting, or receiving of any item of value as a means of influencing the actions of an individual holding a public or legal duty.

Yeah...Cruz is basically soliciting bribery. His statement says more generally "act as we want you to act, and we'll keep giving you perks for which your actions have heretofore been recompense."

Care to elaborate? I doubt it. You might have to employ a fact or two. And that never helps when defending Trumpism!

Trump proposed ideas and performed to created programs that supported his desire to work on behalf of ALL AMERICAS.

His opponents created propaganda to deceive the weak minded saying, using one example, the the phrase "ALL AMERICANS" was a "Racist Dog Whistle".

If you believe that Trump was a racist, then their targeting is demonstrated to have been successful.

Proposing means nothing.

And, I’m sure you can name a few of these mythological programs.

Of course, there’s a long list of things he proposed, and never followed up on. Which was always his MO. He learned it as a front man hawking condos. Promise them anything. You won’t be around after settlement.

I don’t know or care about your “propoganda”. I knew everything I needed to know about Donald Trump when Reagan was still in his first term.

He was a lying, *****grabbing, vulgar, crooked cretin then. He has not changed.
