While liberals were busy bemoaning the low wages of the minimally skilled hamburger flippers and other fast food employees, while Congress and the unions were busy exempting themselves from the Obamacare they pushed for,, another group of workers was falling victim to the Unaffordable Health Care Act.

Shop girls. Sales clerks.

Forever 21, the privately held fast fashion retailer teen aged girls just lo-o-ove, recently informed many full time employees that beginning Sunday, August 18 they were suddenly part time employees; their maximum working hours dropping to 29.5 hours a week.

Obamacare's mandatory employer provided health insurance kicks in for employees who work a minimum of...30 hours.

How convenient for the company which naturally denies Obamacare inspired the decision; instead because:

"Company-wide, Forever 21 recently audited its staffing levels, staffing needs and payroll in conjunction with reviewing its overall operating budget. As a result, we are reducing a number of full-time non-management positions.

(snip)

Based on our audit, your position will be reclassified as Part-Time.."

Medical coverage of all types will end as will paid time off.

Expect to see other companies taking similar action--cutting working hours to just under 30 but piously denying Obamacare is the reason.

Thanks Nancy. You got it passed and now we're finding the mess you've given us.

There is always a loophole. This is the problem when progressives feel righteous. They were clearly determined to pass something, anything, and damned be the consequences because they just had to have that feather in their mothball reeking cap. Now it is evil corporate America causing the problems, not the dems, because they dare stand up for their right not to be trampled upon.

They will be out of biz in no time.
Cut the throat of your employees, and watch how fast they will start stealing from you.
Oh, and good luck trying to find workers to make up the difference.

Yeah, it was pretty naive to think that private businesses would make decisions to benefit their employees rather than their own profits. The illusion that business owners are little more than parasites preying on American workers is starting to fall away. Control over healthcare needs to be taken away from these greedy bastards, and put in the hands of the people. Why do we laud these "job creators" if every time they're faced with a choice between their benefit and benefit for American workers, they choose themselves? They do not deserve to be the ones making those choices. They clearly cannot handle the responsibility that comes with power like that.

The cutoff used to be 20 hours. It needs to go back there.

retail and food service is ripe for unionization.

that being said, the employer should not be health care provider for any employees, full time or not. when we eventually move to single payer, it will make businesses more competitive. it just sucks that an entire generation of workers will have to suffer while we play grabass with the poorly designed PPACA "solution."

If only it weren't for Obamacare, they could get that extra half hour...

The cutoff used to be 20 hours. It needs to go back there.

Then they'd just have everybody work 19 hours and 59 minutes. You have to put the cutoff somewhere though. Even buying a beer -- if you go to a bar the night before your 21st birthday you can't buy alcohol at 11:59 pm. At 12:00 midnight, it's bottoms up. That's an awful lot of maturing in one minute!

The problem is that all health care is dependent on insurance except emergency care. I'd favor making healthcare kind of like a right to an attorney -- you have the right to "a lawyer" but not necessarily a good one. Give everybody the right to the basics like checkups and anything to save their life.

You have a right to counsel due to the government having the ability to take away your rights on conviction and sentencing. That has nothing in common with getting healthcare from private citizens.
