Which political party would you prefer to win the 2008 Presidential election?

The election is too far off for me to choose. We don't even know who the candidates will be or what new issues might arise between now and then. oops.. guessed I missed the part about non-americans.

Put simply, I have no idea. I don't know enough about either party and because America is so big it's very difficult to gain an understanding of state and local issues that would affect peoples voting, such things barely ever make our news. I guess the border states are going to want action on immigration in November and again in 2008 but that's about all I could tell you. Abortion? I guess the far right intends to push for bans, I refuse to support Christian extremists as I'd refuse to support any fundamentalist so I wouldn't back anyone pandering to that lobby.

As far as who I'd want for America it's difficult to say, we tend to get very limited analysis of the Democrats and Republicans and their policies here. I guess I ought to choose based on foreign policies, the stuff non-Americans have to deal with, in which case I don't want a cut and run on Iraq or Afghanistan, nor do I want Iran and the NK given an easy time, and Chavez lost any support I'd give him as a socialist by giving his blessing to the (fundamentally anti-social) narcotics industry saying it was "America's problem", f*** him. This would suggest that I favour a Republican administration, however I know that there is some sort of split developing there and wonder if there will be a reaction to the Bush popularity ratings that sees the Republicans step away from these policies.

On the other hand I'd like to see the US coming back to the table on the Kyoto treaty, it's not much but it's a start. And I certainly want you to collectively keep your noses out of the European Union expansion, it's bad enough with our own leaders, let alone yours sticking their oar in, more support for cooperation and integration and less about how we should reward Turkey and bring in a token Muslim member, affirmative action on a transnational scale if you ask me.

I really don't know, haven't voted yet, good thread though. Perhaps if the national parties have released any initial campaign policies you could link us to them, that might help.
