Well I watching CNN a while back an I heard Michael Moore say something that really stuck in my head for a while.
I don't remember the exact quote but it had something to do with my title.
Would you guys agree with this quote?

I generally think health insurance is evil.

It's more or less a casino where your bets are against your own health and the jackpot is you don't have to declare bankruptcy if you get sick. And of course, the odds are always stacked in the house's favor.

Believe me if you have a choice of being admitted to a "for profit" institution and a "not for profit" health institution choose the latter any day

My niece is an intelligent liberal, political junkie and very well informed. She thinks that it's wrong to charge people money in exchange for health care. People should provide health care out of the kindness of their hearts and not charge anyone for it. You're taking advantage of a person in a desperate situation if you make a sick person pay to get better. She believes that doctors' salaries should be reduced to get rid of the greedy ones.

She also believes that teachers' salaries should be raised.

but the "not for profit" institution is a lot more expensive

That doesn't mean there shouldn't be reforms with regards to the health insurance industry. After all, what's the point of a consumer paying for health insurance coverage if the business can drop someone as soon as covering them eats into their profit margins that they pay for executives and administrators? A person pays into private health insurance as an investment for future health care costs. Why should they be able to lose all the money they paid into a health insurance company if that company is allowed to drop them despite all the money paid into that business?

We either need a public option or proper regulations for private health insurance companies. Either health insurance companies shouldn't be allowed to drop coverage for people or health insurance companies should be allowed to drop coverage but then pay back to the consumer all the money they invested minus the costs, and that total should also be paid back with interest.

Health care done properly does not need to be expensive or a resource burden, and it still produces effective results. America's health care problem is that medicine is about profit, period. It all starts there. Capitalism breeds innovation but it also creates stagnancy. At this point, I would say that any "innovation" that holds back society should be discarded.

The current system is not working, it's obvious. I'm not saying Obama's health care is going to be any better; in fact, it's clear that it just plays right into the hands of insurance companies. The system needs reform from the ground up but sadly, at this point, it would likely take a catastrophic collapse before anyone is willing to really do that.

It's never going to change, though, because our Congressmen and Senators get too much in campaign donations from health insurance companies and not enough from health care consumers.

Correct.

And that is the reason why good policy decisions in most other areas don't happen either. Say hello to the reason democracy is stagnating in the western world.

Well, techncally, it's not democracy that's stagnating the Western world, it's representative government.

I thought this thread was about health care providers, not insurance companies.
