Lynd explained the cards weren't showing limits and they called corporate Wal-Mart, whose spokesman said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Wal-Mart said they wouldn't press charges if she left the food.
Several someone's, apparently.
It's just ingrained in some people to figure that whatever a corporation does is bad. Hell, if Exxon started giving away free houses people would complain and cry "CONSPIRACY!!!".
Not practically stealing. It IS stealing. Their benefits should be docked 25% each month until the overages are returned.
Really? What else was the store supposed to do? They had two options:
1. Nobody gets to use an EBT until things are fixed or
What was Wal-Mart supposed to do? Cut them off?
Yes. Its WalMarts fault for allowing poor people to buy food for their family and THATS what caused everyone to spread the word and make a run on Walmart stealing shopping carts full of food they knew they couldnt afford.
I would have said "because we'll get assraped in public opinion if we deny EBT users their food".what `about walmart? They knowingly allowed the abuse to occur for likely what they saw as financial gain
There's a such a thing as self responsibility. Something none of those people can comprehend.
Why should the recipients get off scott free? The govt. should pay Wally World and take it off their next months' benefits until it's paid off.
I would have said "because we'll get assraped in public opinion if we deny EBT users their food".
Why do we insist on treating these adults like children that don't know better?
Also, Wal-Mart for giving the nod of approval to this. Corporations are people, right? This means we can put them in jail?
Your inability to recognize when theft has occurred may be why you are "very liberal". Just a thought...
n. the generic term for all crimes in which a person intentionally and fraudulently takes personal property of another without permission or consent and with the intent to convert it to the taker's use (including potential sale). In many states, if the value of the property taken is low (for example, less than $500) the crime is "petty theft," but it is "grand theft" for larger amounts, designated misdemeanor or felony, respectively. Theft is synonymous with "larceny." Although robbery (taking by force), burglary (taken by entering unlawfully) and embezzlement (stealing from an employer) are all commonly thought of as theft, they are distinguished by the means and methods used and are separately designated as those types of crimes in criminal charges and statutory punishments.
No...it isnt a charity. And it made a business decision to allow people to purchase groceries to feed their family even though the fed system was ****ed up. And in return, people went on a wilding spree...and of course in your twisted ****ed up world, thats Walmarts fault.why can't it be both their faults? Seems like your setting up some silly false dilemma and one that ignores walmarts across the country turn away customers everyday who can't afford to feed their family.
It's not a ****ing charity
That's one of the problems with OPM (other peoples money)
It is very addictive, and people just keep wanting more.
He said emergency procedures in place with Xerox allow retailers to call a phone number and receive authorization for purchases any time the EBT system is down. "Some retailers chose not to follow the process," he said. "Those businesses are only being reimbursed for the (maximum) amounts on individual cards," he said.
Williams said that amounts transacted above the cards' available balances were returned to Wal-Mart marked "as insufficient funds."
This is not something that started with Obama...Obama voters
Worthless trash
In this case, Wal-Mart ignored the EBT limits. That's not the customer's problem. It's Wal-Mart's.
Looks like Walmart will be the generous one covering the losses.
Wal-Mart, Xerox blame each other for Louisiana shopping gone wild - chicagotribune.com
They didnt KNOW they were attempting to defraud Walmart...how could they POSSIBLY know??? They were just shoppping like normal and didnt think they were doing ANYTHING wrong. I mean...its not like they abandoned a trainload of groceries and shopping carts after the system came up. Why...they were just poor innocent victims.....Where is Walmart's? Their responsibility was to follow the standards set on the EBT cards. They did not. They can't fault consumers for not following them either. It's not as if Wal-Mart corporates had no clue what was going on. They got wind of it. They should have put a stop to it. Is that not the mantra for you? If the higher ups know about it, they're at fault?
