I live in Chicago and we have many people from other nations. There are especially two types that like to fly THIER nations flag all over the place. In their cars, on their houses and in front of their businesses. Im talking about the Mexicans and the Polish.

My question to you is should they be able to fly those flags in America?

Why should they not be able to? I flew multiple flags during the World Cup...

I proudly wear the flags of Britain, Canada and South Africa on my backpack. Sometimes I walk around in my South African Soccer and Rugby shirts. And I'm still proud to be a Canadian.

There's your answer.

It's their constitutional right, enough said.

Pretty much said it all in terms of the OP's question.

I'll even go a step further and say I have no problem with people displaying pride in their ethnic heritage. I don't wave an Italian flag, but I'm quite proud to be Italian and display my pride in my heritage mostly through food and family traditions.

That seems dangerously multicultural, are you a secret socialist? ;)

I remember in Baltimore you could tell the neighborhood by the flags you see. The main three I remember were Irish, Italian, Greek

I swear there are just as many Norwegian flags in Minnesota as there are US flags. I personally don't give a rip and I would consider it freedom of speech.

As long as it's not part of a protest, I've got no problem with people flying flags from other countries. If they're marching down the street with picket signs and foreign flags, that's just one more reason for them to get the hose.

I think anyone calling themselves an American should only fly American flags and anyone wishing to be American should only fly American flags. Because if that person's former country was great enough that he or she want to be flying its flag here in the US then why are is that person here in the US instead of their former country?

My favorite Teddy Roosevelt quote
There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all... The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic... There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Theodore Roosevelt

All that said they have the constitutional right to flay another nation's flag. However they still have no business calling themselves an American.

They have a constitutional rights to fly any flag they want on our soil. That's the beauty of America. Others however, do not have the Constitutional right against being offended. If it offends someone to see a foreign flag then that's their problem.

Yes, they should be able to fly those flags.

And yes, I should be able to think poorly of them if they're seemingly putting far more focus and love and care towards their ethnic heritage rather than the country they're actually living in.

I'll be fully honest. I have no problem with a mexican or italian or irish or any other heritage individual proudly displaying that heritage. But when your focus is more on that then being American, when you always fly their flag but never the stars and stripes, when you take advantage of the benefits of this country while simply pumping up another, then I've got little respect for you.

However if you knock out Brock Lesnar I'll at least give you a temporary pass. Temporary.

Im talking about the Mexicans and the Polish.

Outside of the beginning of May, it doesn't bother me that much. But because May 3rd is the Polish Constitution day followed immediately by Cinco de Mayo, I hate that all of them drive around with flags all over their cars ****ing up traffic.

But as far as ather countries flags outside of businesses, it's just a part of Chicago and it always has been. Without it's constant stream of Immigrants, this city wouldn't have become what it is today.

Are you being serious, Rat ?
Its a stretch - freedom of speech and it must be limited.
During a permitted rally or protest, I see nothing wrong at all with the protesters proudly carrying their banners or flags.

I don't consider protests to be "peaceable assemblies", nor do I consider their activities to fall under the "freedom of expression". They are loud and disorderly and they turn into riots far too easily. They interfere with citizens going about their lawful business. So, yes, when they gather in numbers and start shouting and waving picket signs, I think firehoses and attack dogs are the most appropriate response.

I don't see why not. There can be obnoxious forms of doing so (as shown earlier), but whatever.
