DeSantis kills online learning program amid virus resurgence
Not only is he the real do nothing to help governor as his state gets overrun by this virus, but he is going to force his schools to open and to insure they can not go online, he had he money for such assistance for schools eliminated from the Florida budget. He has to either be out of his mind or the worst politician ever or both. I know he lives and dies by Trump's orders from on high, but this is not a good move. Let me know what you think about his actions.

I'm not surprised, but I am disgusted. He should be impeached and imprisoned. Why don't they just execute the students on the bus so they don't have to turn the lights on in the school?

Just imagine if every state shut down, and then when they started to reopen, everyone wore a mask. We would probably be past this thing by know.

I have grandchildren in Florida. desantis has given parents the choice to go to school or stay home and attend virtual classes. they need to go to school and live a normal life.

And sure, they'll say "oops, don't do this" later. Far too little, far too late. How many did they get killed before this revelation? The worst tragedy, perhaps, is the idiotic and easily avoidable one? Not the one where the perp set out to do it, and would thus always have done it. The one where wasn't initially intended, but it was the natural consequence of action taken, and the action was intended, misguided or not.





In some ways it's worse.

Compare a 1st degree murderer who premeditated. They knew who they wanted to kill and they either went and did it, or tried but killed someone else.

Then consider the drunk driver who does not care who he or she kills. Simply does not care.

Which is more callous, really?

Have you considered this:

All those cities in the Red states are Dem strongholds. Do you remember the WI election? Republican state, (prior) height of the pandemic, and due to the Covid there were few workers available to work the polls, resulting in fewer polling places and 2-1/2 hour lines with many in line getting infected.

If the Covid rages in the cities come November, the Dem vote in those states will be greatly reduced (if they don't allow mail-in voting).

Now, is that the impetus to do what he's doing? Maybe, maybe not. But it surely occurred to him that it's a nice side-benefit.

It's probably because of the University of West Florida investigation started last year (see below), but it looks like real class attendance and/or virtual attendance for kids are still available in Florida.

November 2019: "According to a Florida College System report, the University of West Florida should no longer host the Complete Florida Plus Program.

The report, prepared by the Learning Resources Standing Committee, says UWF is “demonstrating an inability to manage” the program, which oversees Florida Virtual Campus and the Florida Academic Library Service Cooperative, among other things. ...

“UWF currently charges the maximum overhead amount for managing the CFPP program at 5%. With the CFPP funding allocation form the Legislature at approximately $23,000,000, the overhead charge to the program is in excess of $1,000,000 per year for UWF. Those charges are above the direct costs already funded from the CFPP budget, including leases and administrative personnel,” the report states. ..."

C'mon, are you really going there? Isn't it based on the same theory that "weak Dems" don't come out in cold weather?

It's the cities where the pandemic problems occur, and the cities are the state Dem strongholds. Suppress the vote in the cities, and the state stays Red. I think DeSantis may know exactly what he's doing

I read your welcome post in advance of my arriving to the thread and I considered that I extended it. You and I see the same thing, among others who see it and who recognize this Republican mob in the state capitals and the nation's capital will have to go in one Constitutional way or the other. It's the course that we're on anyway at this point.

I don't care what anyone says either. Protesting with the way things were going was the absolutely dumbest thing to do. You can't convince me that didn't help start the setback.
