you claimed crime was up in that county due to leftists....its controlled by Republicans....so, again, how are leftists in government at fault for the crime in the Panhandle of Florida?

Because it is the left which has caused crime to spike through their support of the Summer of Love in 2020.....crime or the lowlifes who live like a scumbag do not care or follow your politics.....all they see is the leniency now available because of leftist policies across the country......Florida might be simply warning them to stay the hell out of Florida, else risk being shot.....do you have a problem with that?

(1) A person is presumed to have held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another when using or threatening to use defensive force that is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm to another if:

(a) The person against whom the defensive force was used or threatened was in the process of unlawfully and forcefully entering, or had unlawfully and forcibly entered, a dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle, or if that person had removed or was attempting to remove another against that person's will from the dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle;  and

California law does permit homeowners to use lethal force.

198.5. ​

Any person using force intended or likely to cause death or great bodily injury within his or her residence shall be presumed to have held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily injury to self, family, or a member of the household when that force is used against another person, not a member of the family or household, who unlawfully and forcibly enters or has unlawfully and forcibly entered the residence and the person using the force knew or had reason to believe that an unlawful and forcible entry occurred.

As used in this section, great bodily injury means a significant or substantial physical injury.

My point is that the sheriff seems to think that the burglary victim who shot at the (alleged) perp (and missed) is not cooperating with the criminal investigation for fear that they may be prosecuted for shooting at the suspect.

"I guess they think they did something wrong, which they did not. If someone's breaking into your house, you're more than welcome to shoot them in Santa Rosa County. We prefer that you do, actually. So, whoever that was, you're not in trouble, come see us. We have a gun safety class we put on every other Saturday. If you take that, you'll shoot a lot better, and hopefully you'll save the taxpayers money."
