Florida lawmakers approve bill to move out-of-state migrants to blue states

Sanctuary relates to undocumented immigrants. These folks have documents.
many do NOT .There is some question of why..Tales say BP won;t let them keep moldy clothes, or other sites say they only get to keep a clear plastic bag.. Or other sites say those subject to Title 42 deliberately dump their ID

regardless it's just more chaos

With the BILLIONS of dollars that have been spent border security, why are they doing such a bad job? We currently spend more on border security than ever in history.

$333 BILLION since 2003.

Stop pretending like it is a problem because of one party or the other. There needs to be comprehensive immigration reform and neither party wants to tackle that issue - it’s way too convenient for them to use it as campaign fodder.

Stop shipping humans around the United States to fire up the base and raise campaign funds. That’s ALL this is, it’s not any sort of solution.

Comprehensive immigration reform is needed, I personally think it's impossible and Congress should try some small ball deals
But if you make the claim "shipping them around" is for campaign fodder -how does that explain Biden doing the same?

BP are overwhelmed. they have turned into "travel agents". pro forma arrests by the hundreds at a time means BP has to pull agents off the line for enforcement and use them at processing centers ( which can be just walking thru a store front - but still takes manpower)

Again Biden policies are causing this -when REMAIN was finally enforced we had like 850k encounters for the entire year
because Mexico kept the migrants from crossing into Mexico, and then crossing at the US border

This is the kind of ignorance that sells on Fox News... There is NOBODY that was subject to REMAIN that did not have a "border encounter" of some kind.. How the **** would BP know to subject someone to REMAIN without an encounter?

You are lying.
When it comes to the demographic profile of those crossing the border, single adults have accounted for most of the recent increase in encounters. Seven-in-ten encounters in November 2022 involved single adults, while far smaller shares involved families (24%) or unaccompanied minors (6%).

$10 million is cheap...hey sanctuary cities we got some more for you
The big picture: The program faced intense backlash after Florida officials were accused of misleading migrants and promising false incentives. The bill, which would set aside $10 million for the program, now heads to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who is expected to sign it into law.

  • DeSantis and other Republicans have argued that the program is an effective way of tackling a surge in migration to the U.S.-Mexico border that has overwhelmed southern states, but immigration advocates counter that the practice is dehumanizing and uses migrants as political pawns.
  • The governor faced scrutiny after he used state funding to fly migrants from Texas to Martha's Vineyard even though the program only set aside money to relocate migrants from within Florida.
Worth noting: The program already faces several legal challenges.

  • One lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of the legislation, highlighting the fact that the language used in the budget for the initial program specifies that the money will help transport migrants out of Florida — not necessarily Texas.
  • The undocumented migrants flown to Martha's Vineyard also filed a class action lawsuit against DeSantis and other Florida officials.
  • A federal watchdog and the D.C. attorney general have both launched investigations into the transports.
This violates the Constitution. Immigration and Asylum law and where the migrants are located is the prevue of the Federal government. The state cannot override that. Not only that...this violates interstate commerce. DeSantis likes to pass lots of unconstitutional laws and then whines like hell when he gets slapped in court.

they could. but they dont. I doubt the migrants want to go back to Florida while the blue states put them up in cushy hotels
a lot of them have family in Florida...so, they will go back to Florida...especially Cubans and Venezuelans.

Who cares? When you said Biden was doing the same thing you were lying.

Recall Biden dumps migrants all over the country in the dead of night without informing/compensating states
or as Psaki said "very early flights"
But i guess that's different
No, that would be CBP and they send them to detention centers around the country while they await their hearing....that is the right of the federal government.

that's old data. the vast majority are single men and women now. not unaccompanied minors
You should have read before screaming old data....the law hasn't changed....it has been this way since way back....the government flies migrants to detention centers around the country....nothing covert about it...and they're there until their case is heard....this isn't about single, children or otherwise...

all of them do. If they have been released to the interior of the US by CBP, they have documents.

Poster cheers human beings being treated like pawns in a game of politics….and effectively human trafficking by GOP states.
It is about time we fix this mess.

That wasnt at all what i was saying.
REMAIN acted like a damper on the flow because of that and because Mexico stationed troops at their borders

all of them do. If they have been released to the interior of the US by CBP, they have documents.
At a modest hotel a few miles from the ocean here, most of the rooms have been occupied this summer by families from African countries seeking asylum — 192 adults and 119 children in all.

They are among the more than one million undocumented immigrants who have been allowed into the country temporarily after crossing the border during President Biden’s tenure,

a lot of them have family in Florida...so, they will go back to Florida...especially Cubans and Venezuelans.
this stuff is very hard to find. no sites give comprehensive info so im just posting the article FYI

are you seriously claiming migrant flights into the interior are forced to stay in detention centers????? no

"purview" not prevue.
Once the migrants are dumped in various states, the fed lose the authority to designate where they have to be
Interstate commerce clause cannot be applied to humans - not that i understand your point -unless you mean the Obamacare mandate. That was consted as a tax (Roberts), not mandating economic activity

They should go where they have friends and family, and many of them do, who can help take care of them.

It's not complicated.

Hmm… your last post (#59) indicted that “many” could allegedly “work and contribute to the economy”.

$333 BILLION since 2003.

You can REALLY ask this question in light of the entire history of the problem starting with the current Administration taking office?

Whether you like it or not, Trump did take steps to control illegal migration. He had a perfectly good set of agreements with Mexico including:

1. Mexico agreeing to act to keep migrants in Mexico while they properly filed applications for immigration, and while their cases were processed in our immigration courts, and

2. Seal their own southern border to prevent migrants from coming up through Mexico.

The problem was the Democrat controlled Congress refused to fund border security when they gained control in 2018. But prior to that it was the RINO's in the SENATE who stone-walled Trumps efforts when the Republicans controlled both Houses from 2016 - 2018.

BTW, that is nothing new for the Senate. When Obama was pushing for "Obama care" the Democrats in the Senate stone-walled in favor of insurance companies and the medical industry for quite some time to insure those "special interests" did not suffer financially.

Stop pretending like it is a problem because of one party or the other. There needs to be comprehensive immigration reform and neither party wants to tackle that issue - it’s way too convenient for them to use it as campaign fodder.

As you can see above I am not stating that at all. I AM stating that the current Administration has exacerbated the situation by their actions. Aided and abetted by "Sanctuary" State and local governments. If you can't see that then IMO you are being willfully blind.

Stop shipping humans around the United States to fire up the base and raise campaign funds. That’s ALL this is, it’s not any sort of solution.

Wrong! That is neither the reason for the "shipping," nor an expected "solution."

It is doing two things. Pointing out the hypocrisy of those elements who keep pushing for literal open borders, and making them feel the pain of the problems they've created by their virtue signaling "sanctuary" assertions.

End of story.

These are HUMAN BEINGS.

I’m sorry your partisanship makes you unable to grasp that.
Everyone involved are HUMAN BEINGS, Good grief.

You live in Jersey. The border states are overwhelmed. If you don't get that one maybe it is time that you do. The cost to these states dealing with this crisis is outrageous. This isn't a partisan problem. It is affecting people of all political affiliations especially in border states. The hospitals close to the border are overwhelmed with illegal immigrants that need medical care to the point that US citizens can't get needed healthcare in these facilities when they need them. These hospitals are in danger of having to close their doors because the number of illegals they treat have no way to pay. The millions/billions this crisis is costing border states is affecting the amount of money they don't have to provide services to U.S. citizens in their state.. Take education, our laws require we provide education for all children within our country. We are getting immigrants pouring across our border that cannot speak English that come from 150 countries. With Spanish alone anyone who took Spanish in high school know the dialects between Spanish speaking countries is a real challenge. Every school district needs to provide interpreters for the language needed. That is a huge cost to any school district.

Yes they are human beings that chose to enter this country illegally.

From your (biased?) link:

Currently, the number of border and interior enforcement officers stands at more than 50,000, with ICE and CBP employing over 84,000 people in total. The number of U.S. Border Patrol agents nearly doubled from Fiscal Year (FY) 2003 to FY 2019. Additionally, the number of ICE agents devoted to its office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) nearly tripled from FY 2003 to FY 2019. In FY 2019, DHS employed more than 8,200 ERO officers.

From other links:

How big is ICE?

Currently, ICE has more than 20,000 employees with 400 offices around the U.S. and abroad. Since the agency’s creation, the number of ERO officers alone has doubled from 3,000 to 6,000 while HSI currently consists of 8,500 employees. The ICE budget at its inception was only $3.3 billion and, as of FY2018, has increased to $7.5 billion.

Removals, which ICE executes, were nowhere near the levels they were during the Trump administration, but they did rise from 2021 to 2022. ICE said it executed just over 72,000 removals in 2022, up from 59,011 in 2021 and down from 2020 which saw 185,884.

The border states already take in more money from the federal government than they pay in. They are a money pit.

One of the states that pays more to the federal government than we get back is my state of NJ.

Figure out what you’re doing on the border, you’ve received billions upon billions of dollars for the effort already. And they’ve spent it on one wasted effort after another.

Walls, fences, drones, an army of border patrol agents, etc.

What else DO you want/need?

That’s because the bulk of federal revenue is from income and FICA ‘payroll’ taxes.

Border security is a federal government expense and responsibility.

A more secure border like we had before Joe “Surge the border” Biden changed federal immigration policy via EO/EA.

You chose to ignore that New Mexico (ranked #1 as a ‘taker’ state) is a border state, blue state and gets 32% of its revenue from the federal government, while Texas has the most miles of southern border, is a red state and gets under 21% of its revenue from the federal government.

New Mexico had the highest return on federal spending of any state ($3.69)

Where did I choose to ignore this?

I did not. I’ve blamed ALL of the border ststes for getting BILLIONS and not solving the issue.

Nonsense.
