Florida Gov DeSantis Pushes To End Disney Self-Government

I did think about it. The question is whether you took the time to read what I wrote, and from this post it's clear you didn't. If you try again you'll find I was complimentary of the work their employees do.

What Kmart was doing was buying up all its competitors by the time they bought Sears their brand was toast we spent so much time buying all the names and neglected their stores and with the Advent of Internet commerce it just sealed the coffin.

Disney's been buying up a lot of stuff so that's what I mean by kmarting.

I think the only reason Disney has had any revenue is because of marvel and Lucas films stuff they bought not what they created.

It's a shame because I remember as a kid getting to see this year's Disney film. Now all they seem to do is plagiarize themselves.
 
There are two sides to this.

On paper, I strongly support this action. First off, **** Disney. They are a terrible company and really should have been broken up a long time ago.

All that aside, Disney's special treatment by the state of Florida definitely well past removing.
In 1967, Disney got the support of Florida's then-Republican governor, Claude Kirk, and the legislature to establish the Reedy Creek Improvement District. It gave Disney near-total control of nearly 40 square miles as it built and then operated its theme park. It exempts the park and its environs from nearly all state regulations. Property taxes and elevator inspections are exceptions.

However, DeSantis clearly doesn't care about the gross level of preference Disney receives from the state. This is obviously a reactionary political hit. I think the state going after corporations in such a political manner is even more condemnatory as the absurd amount of power a corporation seems to wield over a state government.

Personally I hope they both burn fighting each other.

I get that you hate DeSantis, but why should Disney be allowed to exist as a State unto itself?

A company has the right to disagree with that don't say gay law and voice their opinions about it. They also have the right to donate to any politician they want to or not donate to any politician they don't want to. It's called free speech.

But just because of that the republican politicians in Florida want to take Disney's self government from them. Which personally, I don't see why they got it in the first place but they did.

So what the republican politicians in Florida are saying is that if Disney stops paying them, they will take the self government from Disney.

Wow, talk about corrupt government.

My question now is, will Florida want to spend the money to do that job that Disney has been doing and paying for?

I don't know but I do know that if the state of Florida takes self government of Disney away, watch as Disney in Florida to get even worse.

The state isn't going to want to raise taxes to spend the money to do the job that Disney has been doing on it's own so things at Disney in Florida are going to change a lot if this does happen.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if Disney suddenly laid of all 80,000 Florida employees and put them on the state's unemployment insurance.

It shouldn't, but he is clearly only going after Disney now for petty political reasons. He doesn't care about the ethics of a corporations wielding near autonomous governance zone power. If the leadership at Disney change to be friendly towards him he would just as quickly give them their special status back.

I don't really care that they do that. That's just because it's not something they created I have no interest in it except for making money. So it tell me a matter of time before they drive away the entire fan base.

The only people who look bad when they claim that teaching children about the existence of gay people are the people who are hateful towards gay people. Everyone else realizes it's just live and let live, but also that you cannot ask others to let live if you do not tell them what it is they should be letting live.
