BTW, what are you thinking leaving your child in a car like that!?!? In some places you get arrested for that ...
Really? It's against the law to cross the street to mail a letter when your kid is in the car? I did not know that.
And if you were walking back to your car, exactly what would prevent you from retreating? The option you like is there without question.
The point of most Stand Your Ground laws is to provide you with the same legal protections offered by the Castle Doctrine without you being in your home. You are allowed to protect that which is valuable to you without the requirement of having to retreat as far as is possible. I don't see why anyone would be against them given the things that can occur these days.
A California lawmaker is calling on Golden State residents to think "think twice" before spending time and money in Florida after a jury's acquittal of neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in the killing of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.
Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena), along with the California Legislative Black Caucus, announced plans Wednesday for a resolution calling for a boycott of Florida, which Holden said has a Stand Your Ground law that encourages vigilantism.
The calls for a Florida boycott by Holden and the Legislative Black Caucus add to a wave of anger that has grown since Zimmerman's acquittal Saturday. A day after the jury's verdict, singer Stevie Wonder told a crowd he wouldn't perform in Florida or any state with Stand Your Ground gun laws until they were repealed. Martin Luther King III suggested consumers boycott Florida orange juice.
A petition on the progressive site MoveOn.org calls for people to refrain from traveling to Florida until Stand Your Ground is repealed.....snip~
Florida Boycott Resolution Proposed By Chris Holden, California Assemblymember
So the politicians from another state are going to tell people to Boycott Florida. A vacation hot spot.....(also in competition with California over that industry). Do you think this Politician deserves to be re-elected? Shouldn't this individual be about representing the people of California? Why is she off into another states business? Why is the Black Caucus from another state allowed to interfere in another states Rights?
Just what is the Progressive site MoveOn.org.....trying to stir up in this country? Should they be telling people around the country not to go to Florida or States with Stand your Ground Laws?
What the Hell do we need to do in Texas to get 'boycotted'? Those weirdos just keep coming and coming.......
it turns out a lot of people are HJ ... I prefer requiring people to retreat unless retreating imperils your or some other person's life ... I don't like the "make-my-day" version of the Castle Doctrine ... we just disagree and the different versions of stand your ground indicate that it's a tough call ...
I see no problem with "make my day" in regards to someone's home but would if that standard is held everywhere. Prosecuting someone who shot an intruder into their own home is a waste of time and tax dollars.
LOL ... yup, and they're blue ... if it keeps up, the state will be blue ... you had your chance to secede, we wanted you to secede, you didn't, so now we're going to take you over ... you had your chance ...
home is cetrtainly a different matter altogether ...
It shouldn't be. In the half second it takes me to even realize I should or even if I can retreat, it could be the difference between life and death. I shouldn't be punished for not letting myself be a victim, whether I'm in my home or not. If I reasonably could have retreated, I wouldn't be in the immediate danger required for me to use any self-defense laws, including SYG. Whether this law is being abused or not, it's overwhelmingly necessary to protect the innocent people who just didn't want to die. In the heat of an attack, nobody should be expected to think of anything other than the immediate danger to their life.home is cetrtainly a different matter altogether ...
They just arent applying ANYTHING that resembles 'thought'. This is all about finding some sort of 'win', regardless if what they are proposing makes zero sense. So am I to understand that black politicians are going to boycott a state because of the Stand Your Ground law which has benefited more black people than anybody else in that state?
Seems like a fine line to walk for them.
I'll believe it when I see it.
I was just making sure we were on the same page because from my understanding Castle Doctrine is dealing with your home, and the "Stand your ground" law is an extension of it to everywhere you have a right to be legally. So when you said you had a problem with Castle I wsd assuming you had a problem with someone defending their home.

any age? I wouldn't leave a baby or toddler in the car alone to mail a letter ... would you?

hopefully we'll both live long enough to see it and have a good laugh about it, ey? :lamo
I didn't give an age. Do you think it matters to a parent how old their kid is if they are in danger? If you 1 month old or your 12 year old is in the back of your car and it's getting jacked, do you think you would act differently?
That is where the Stand You Gound laws help, they extend the Castle Doctrine to you when you are not at home. I don't advocate shooting someone I see stealing my newspaper just because I have the 'right' to protect my property. I do think there should be protections if you have to do it to protect your child when you are in a park though. If we are only limited to protecting our valuables when inside the home then there is something very wrong,
