I keep hearing from various TV and radio p[undits, speculation on the idea that the movie "Flight 93", about the plane hijacked on 9/11 where the passengers fought back agains the hijackers and the plane wound up crashing in Pennsylvania, might be showing "too soon", that "America isn't ready for it".
In what alternate reality do those critics exist?
The best time to have shown that movie, would have been about Sept. 18, 2001. One week after the horrific events themselves. Would have been a little tough to have the movie ready that fast, of course. But that would have been the best time, had it been possible.
Now it's more than FOUR YEARS after the event. When, exactly, do these people think would be the right time, if now is "too soon"? What will happen between now and that "right time", to make it right while "now" is wrong?
I almost get the feeling they want to put off any showing of what happened on that date, until long after it can have any effect on the American public. Say, in about 70 years, when most people old enough to have remembered it, are gone. Sort of like bringing out the "Pearl Harbor" movie with affleck, sixty years after the event itself.
Do they feel that we don't want America getting angry at the people who perpetrated the massively gruesome events of 9/11, all over again? Why, that would only make it more difficult for us to get along with them, more difficult to accommodate their rightful place among us.
Excuse me, but perhaps getting mad at them over those events, is exactly what we DO need, to properly deal with the people whose plans have not changed and whose goals remain the same against us. Perhaps letting a cooling-off period go by, is precisely the WRONG thing to do now... no matter how desired by the go-along-to-get-along crowd. Sure, we can forget about the hatred and venom they hold for us, and the deeds that hatred has already driven them to do. But they won't forget. They certainly didn't forget in the runup to 9/11 - and what has changed since then, to make them forget their hatred since then?
Sorry, Charlie. "Flight 93" is exactly what we DO need now... almost as much as we needed it just after 9/11. The American people needed to be reminded, as often and as starkly as possible, exactly what the Islamic fanatics intend for us. "Flight 93" does that very well. We also need movies titled "The 104th Floor" and "North Tower" and "Target: Pentagon", to keep reminding us of actual reality: the fact that there are people who have inflicted mass murder on a historic scal upon us, and desire nothing but more of the same.
Bring it on.
