A conservative MP has come out as transgender (sort of).

Jamie Wallis MP has tweeted that: "I'm trans. Or to be more accurate, I want to be."

He's still presenting as male and has said he will continue still masculine pronouns.
I wonder what he means by "I want to be trans"?

Sounds like they just realized they are trans?

Well this is the point. He specifically said he wants to be trans, not that he's realised he is. Wants to be implies he isn't yet?

Hard to say. Article said he was diagnosed with gender dysphoria at a young age. It sounds like from the article he meant that he wanted to transition but felt that doing so while holding public office would be too much attention. Which suggests to me he is trans and simply hasn't medically or socially transitioned yet.

Lots of words have slightly different meanings in different countries, my guess. Maybe in Britain saying your trans means you've made, or are making, the transition, not just that you feel you should.

Likely means he likes to wear a dress and sleep with men.

Why anyone should care, how this can be blackmailable is a sad indictment on society.

Transitioned yet? You mean had cosmetic surgery. Their is no such thing as transitioning from male to female.

He appears to be trans-transgendered.

I found this handy table a few years ago that helps explain.

TermMeaning
transgenderednot really a woman, but wants everyone to treat him as though he is a woman
trans-transgenderednot really transgendered, but wants everyone to treat him as though he is transgendered
trans-trans-transgenderednot really trans-transgendered, but wants everyone to treat him as though he is trans-transgendered
etc.etc.

Too late to edit but having noticed the flag on your sidebar you'd know better than I if my guess were right.

Yes, I mean he has not medically or socially transitioned.
In a later statement, Wallis said: “For the time being, I will continue to present as I always have and will use he/him/his pronouns.”

Just sounds like he is starting to explore his gender. Not much else to it really.

Old news, been there, done that.
New Zealand had a trans politicians years ago. And she was so popular that she had to retire to get out of politics.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg...(born,openly transgender Member of Parliament.
Georgina Beyer MNZM JP (born November 1957) is a New Zealand politician and former Labour Party Member of Parliament. She was the world's first openly transgender mayor, as well as the world's first openly transgender Member of Parliament. She is also among a very small number of former sex workers to hold political office.
At the 1999 general election, Beyer was selected as the Labour Party's candidate for the Wairarapa electorate. She surprised political commentators to win the typically right-leaning electorate, with a 3,033-vote majority over former colleague and National candidate Paul Henry, to become the world's first transgender Member of Parliament.

At the 2002 election, Beyer re-contested Wairarapa for Labour. She was easily re-elected with an increased majority of 6,372 votes.[13]

In a December 2002 interview, Beyer said: "I get asked questions no other politician would ever have to answer. Regarding the surgery, you know. ‘Did it hurt?’, or, ‘When you have sex now as a woman, is it different to how you had sex as a man?’ Well, honey, obviously."[14]

That's pretty funny.

Not all trans people are heterosexual in their identified gender. Almost half of trans people are gay or bisexual.

It is strange that he made the decision to come out publically before he started HRT. Most trans people wait until they have been HRT for a few months before coming out. Many are only known to their family and closest friends at that point.

Not strange, he wanted to avoid being blackmailed.
Much respect to him for not allowing himself to be compromised.
