First Prisoners of War as Ukraine Captures Russian Soldiers

2.24.22
Two Russian soldiers have been captured by Ukrainian soldiers, according to the Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT), a collection of investigators based between Russia and Ukraine. The CIT posted pictures of two individuals on Thursday on its Twitter page and showed the weapons the soldiers allegedly had on them. The unnamed alleged soldiers in the pictures do not appear to have any serious injuries. Another picture showed the weapons the prisoners apparently had on them. This included multiple cartridges of ammo, knives, and guns. CIT's research has been cited widely in past months, including by experts from the nonprofit CNA, a think tank that advises the U.S. military, according to an ABC News report. The spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Nikolenko, also tweeted the images of the soldiers. "Press officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Anatoliy Shtefan has published photographs of what appear to be captured Russian soldiers," the caption said according to a Google translation. The caption went on to say that the alleged prisoners were with tanks in the Belgorod region in Russia in the days preceding the invasion and, on Thursday, they were located on the outskirts of Kharkiv. "Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny: 'Ukranian military have taken prisoners, two Russian soldiers of UNIT 91701 of Yampol motorised infantry regiment," Nikolenko tweeted.

Treat them as POW's according to the Geneva Conventions.

Treat them as Princes among Peacemakers .

Shower them with garlands and feast them as kings .
