Race is the only issue in this subject. If the firefighter was black, he wouldn't have been demoted. If the firefighter was talking about a white, he wouldn't have been demoted.

If you don't recognize it as racist, frankly you're not qualified to have a conversation about this (or much of anything involving racism).
