Feds tapped phones of Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, and caught one call with White House: NBC News

Federal authorities wiretapped phone lines of President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen, and intercepted at least one call between a Cohen line and the White House, NBC News reported Thursday.

It is not known when the wiretap on Cohen was authorized, but it was in place in the weeks before the April 9 raid on his New York City home, hotel room and office by FBI agents, according to NBC News.

Cohen is under criminal investigation by prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York for issues that include his business dealings.

Among the items seized from Cohen last month were files related to a $130,000 payment he made to porn star Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 presidential election. Daniels has said the money was in exchange for her promise to keep quiet about an affair she says she had with Trump in 2006.

Here it is. I'm guessing the tap is what led to the raid; they probably found out there was some kind of intention to destroy evidence.

Jesus. They really were all up in his ****, weren't they?

I don't think all of this would be a precursor to Cohen not being indicted mighty soon now.

Oh well, I'll just toss in the commentary & NBC link that I prepared for my thread starter, that the OP here beat me to:

(NBC) Feds tapped Trump lawyer Michael Cohen's phones

Apparently from the article, the tap(s) were in place for "weeks", before the federal search warrants were served upon Cohen.

I suppose one of my questions would concern the "at least one call from the White House" quote. Is it one call only? Many calls? Who made it/them, and what was discussed?

I believe with a more conventional set of investigation subjects, their attorneys would advise them to break-off communications, and they would listen to their lawyers. But this crowd seems to not be very conventional at all, so we shall see.

But it seems that Mr. Cohen, and anyone involved in criminal or other nefarious deeds with him, may have something more to worry about if they like to talk loose over the phone.

Actually, even if a given individual doesn't volunteer incriminating information over the phone, there's still the possibility that Cohen & others he communicates with can be volunteering it among themselves!

Fake news. Media is just mad that Kanye West woke up from the black plantation! Sad! #MAGA

Trump will start screaming now that Obama's deep state had his wires tapped again.

Given that they raided his stuff, it's safe to assume he was talking openly about somehow destroying or concealing evidence. And we know that the call between Trump and Cohen after the raid was Cohen telling Trump to not contact him anymore because of wiretaps. We also know that Trump famously doesn't email, and does all of his business over the phone, so it's safe to assume there are multiple calls between Trump (nobody else at the White House would have a reason to contact Cohen) and Cohen that were picked up.

Oh, you want to see Trump go Donkey Kong, do you? Just wait til Mueller finally opens the door with the "Ivanka" sign on it.

Has Rudy been on the ‘team’ a full two weeks yet? Welcome aboard, your honor!

Yep, the wiretap(s) would likely have justified the nature of the way the warrant was served.

And it goes without saying, evidence at the level of requiring a judge to sign-off on a warrant like that to the President's personal lawyer & fixer, would likely be extremely damning evidence!

I would expect the White House & other Cohen associates, should have long surmised Cohen and anyone else even tangentially related to the investigation may have flipped, be wearing a wire, or be under electronic surveillance. But you never know with these guys.

Trump has been said to never use email, so he may have somewhere earlier in his life learned to not conduct personal grey-area & dirty-matter business directly, but rather through an intermediary. Similar to "Pauli', in the book "Wise Guys" (AKA "Goodfellows").

Oh, you want to see Trump go Donkey Kong, do you? Just wait til Mueller finally opens the door with the "Ivanka" sign on it.

I'm sure he can architect that.

So far, Avenatti has yet to be wrong in his predictions. And he predicts a Cohen indictment withinin 90 days.

It would be interesting to see if Trump would be so naive as to call Cohen himself, and commence in incriminating discussion. That sounds even a bit much, for him. But this crowd never fails to astound me.

And the quote of "at least one call from the White House", could mean anything. It could be anywhere from one to infinity.

This news though, is going to severely impact the decisions made by Davidson and others that appear to have exposure in this mess.

So, who thinks Giuliani's remarkable loquaciousness last evening and this morning were ahead-of-the-event efforts to distract Trump-watchers from today's latest revelation - that Cohen's phones have been tapped by the Feds??

Look, a squirrel! (sitting on Trump's bald head, no doubt...)

Jeesh and they say us gay guys are easily distracted by shiny things. We have nothing on the Trump supporters.

Both Giuliani and Trump refer to “Stormy Daniels” as thought they have never heard the name before! “This’s crazy Stormy Daniels business, and somebody named Stormy Daniels!”

What other predictions has he made?
That the incident took place, and it would come out. That Trump would be found to be David Dennison. That Trump paid the $130k. That Cohen would take the 5th. And a few others, often smaller and legal in nature, that escape me at the moment.

He seems to be pretty good at describing the immediate future events.

Oh, and he predicts Trump will not finish his term. That of course is the huge one, and of course very much remains to be seen!

Its fun watching Count Giuliani try to put this five alarm fire out with a teacup of warm piss

Pee Pee Gate anyone ?

Giuli Boy is already on it! :lamo

(I'm serious here, he was already on cable stating as much)

Cohen should have done what Ohr's wife did...get a HAM license.

It appears that Trump and Cohen spoke directly to each other, after the raid. And that Cohen told him not to contact him again. Implying Cohen is attempting to prevent investigators from uncovering further wrongdoing.

That may be SOP for Trump, but I just don't see it here.

iirc Hugh Hewitt stated that the Trump Administration was just going to plow on through Iran, PRNK, China et al and he would survive any impeachment attempt. Cannot imagine how this all plays internationally?
