This is what I would consider "Breaking News", but because our lame-stream liberal media will be in no hurry to report this, it is relegated to the lower depths of this forum.

Breaking news, is breaking news no matter who chooses to report it.

Feds clear DeLay after six years
By MIKE ALLEN | 8/16/10 8:55 AM EDT Updated: 8/16/10 11:17 AM EDT

The Justice Department has informed former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) that the government has ended a six-year investigation of his ties to the disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, according to DeLay's lead counsel in the matter, Richard Cullen, chairman of McGuireWoods.

The investigation lasted through two presidents and four attorneys general. Its demise provides a stark footnote to the lobbying scandals that helped Democrats regain the House majority they held for 40 years and lost in the Republican revolution of 1994, which eventually made the pugnacious DeLay one of Washington’s top power brokers.

“The federal investigation of Tom DeLay is over, and there will be no charges,” Cullen said. “This was one of the longest and expensive and thorough investigations in recent memory. DeLay took a tack right from the start that he had nothing to hide, and we have been in a routine and constant dialogue with [prosecutors].

“I’m sure he wishes it didn’t take six years of his life, with a cloud hanging over him. I am pleased with the outcome. They just took longer than we would have preferred. He said he was gratified and thanked us.”

FWIW, Politico can go in the BN forums.

Payback's a bitch ... if Issa get's his way and there's enough Republicans - watch the subpoena's fly. Politicians tend to either forget or deny power changes in Congress... the tit-for-tat will continue.

Convictions and legitimate charges are not necessarily the goal with a lot of allegations against politicians. Delay was taken out of the ballgame and that was probably all that mattered.

Correct. They did the same thing with the senator from Alaska and helped get a veto proof senate as a result.

That was all it was ever about... It was just to discredit him and the republicans in DC. There was never any validity behind the charges.

It is good to show everyone that when a Republican is accused of a crime, they get run out of DC, but Dem's?

Anyone see Rangel Birthday party?

Delay was investigated by a justice department under a firmly Republican federal government. Whatever the motivation, partisan politics obviously wasn't the answer. Delay took many personal gifts from Jack, including travel expenses and skyboxes. It was quite reasonable to investigate him given the circumstances. Furthermore, the pressure to resign came from the Grand Jury indictment in Texas, a case which not concluded.

Democrats in general will fight to the end to stay in office regardless. Look at Congressman Jefferson from Louisiana. Caught absolutely read handed and just refused to go. People like him and Rangel become so corrupt and so entrenched in the power of office they put themselves way above the law. I think Democrats especially have the attitude that they do so much for American and their constituents that the deserve special treatment under the law. The law is for the unimportant people. We need term limits people.

Give it time.. the cases against him are not over.. he was corrupt.

Yes, he was in the Dallas Morning News today. He should have prayed for a federal punishment that he could have served in Segoville (Fed pen that looks like a college campus), instead he's going to wind up in the State pen in Huntsville if they find him guilty of the money laundering charges that he's currently facing.

This guy is such a creep.

He said in an interview that the reason he took lobbyist paid trips was to save the taxpayer money.

No, dummy, you're supposed to pay for your own Golf trips and 5-star resorts.

What an asshole.
