I have serious doubts about how well this will work, but I wish them the best.

Secret Service are federal workers. What would happen if none showed up for work? It would never happen but fun to imagine anyway.

I said in another thread here that anyone eating meals in the White House is probably consuming record amounts of spit.
I suppose that would also include anyone taking their meals on Capitol Hill as well.

More than likely they're prohibited from striking or ghosting but I don't think much can be done about "slowdowns".

I was hoping to the see the headline that they were suing him for blocking their pay raises with a false claim about what gave him the authority to do so.

That seems like a stronger case than suing him over a basic government shutdown ... unless he refuses to sign whatever it is that gives them their backpay.

Or maybe they can sue for damages for how their finances get screwed up because Trump decided to use them as a pawn to get money he promised he wouldn't demand.

Yeah. Emergency Essential personnel agree to that status when they are hired.

They'll get back-pay. That said, if they're required to work, they should be paid on time and not have to wait.

Why didn't this union sue Obama?

 if you want to accuse Obama and Trump of exploiting the agreement, okay. They signed up to hold that job, and don't have to stay there. Unlike the military, any of them can leave pretty much at any time (overseas workers might be delayed simply because of the administrative work if getting back).

Obama said that he would be proud to shut down the government?

Excellent question. Maybe they were locked in the same basement the "anti-war" movement disappeared into as soon as he took office?

He certainly is not. As regards being the Chief Executive during a government shut down, however...

I didn't say that they aren't free to look for other work or that they didn't make that agreement (on that latter point I honestly don't know one way or the other), only that Trump is exploiting that agreement. Not that I believe they'll have a chance in hell with the lawsuit, but it's accurate to say that Trump is exploiting that agreement just the same.

For Obamacare? He certainly did so. Whether or not he said so, however, would be irrelevant, as the President's level of pride or lack thereof has zero impact whatsoever in questions of standing.

Go search "Emergency Essential" on USAJobs.gov. You'll find that it's listed openly in the job description/requirements, and they also reiterate it in the conditions of the offer that they signed.

Only that Trump is exploiting that agreement.

Eh. I don't think I'd blame Obama for the importance of doing things like securing nuclear facilities, regardless of whether or not our elected officials are able to come to timely agreements on policy questions.

I really have no reason to doubt your claim. It makes Trump's exploitation of them that much scummier.

I'm sure they're all tuning in to Fox to hear how this is all Obama's fault.

... You think it makes Obama and Trump scummy that emergency essential federal employees knew what they were getting into?

Because that shutdown was the gop's fault. They wanted to use the govt shutdown as a negotiation tool on obamacare and the gop is doing the same thing again, but this time for the wall.

They would deservedly be out of a nice job. And those federal workers might find jobs that other Americans will not do, go out and pick fruit or veggies in the fields, start appreciating that they will be getting paid, in almost all instances, for not working.

Complain to Stretch and Chuckie. Lots.

People just cannot afford to go without a paycheck, it's just that simple. The majority of people are 2 paychecks away from bankruptcy so any protracted shutdown is going to literally send them to the poorhouse.
