Federal judge blocks Pa. town crackdown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A federal judge on Tuesday blocked the city of Hazleton from enforcing a pair of ordinances targeting illegal immigrants, just hours before the measures were to go into effect.

The measures, approved by City Council last month, would have imposed fines on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and denied business permits to companies that give them jobs. They also would have required tenants to register with City Hall and pay for a rental permit.

U.S. District Judge James Munley ruled that landlords, tenants and businesses that cater to Hispanics faced "irreparable harm" from the laws and issued a temporary restraining order blocking their enforcement.

"We find it in the public interest to protect residents' access to homes, education, jobs and businesses," he wrote in a 13-page opinion.

Yet another city council with thier heads up their asses.

It just proves that the Attorneys General in these states are failing to do their jobs.

Now if anything, this would be an activist judge.
The question is why? Illegal immigrants should not even be here to begin with. Why the hell are they protected to education jobs and so on? Makes no rational sense whatsoever.

Respect is one thing, but this is all out saying oh, no, it's ok, you can stay here.

You want to protect thier rights judge? Then let's start with reforming the quotas in annual immigrations.

Stupid

What a damn shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in Arizona so you don't have to tell me about the illegal immigrant issue....

We have 19 propositions to vote on this coming election.

Prop 103 .......to make English our official language. Can you believe it? the overwhelming majority of Americans speak English and we have to vote on it.

Prop 202 raises the minimum wage from $5.15 - $6.75. And it will adjust every year to keep pace with the cost of living. We will be one of the highest in the nation. Lets just give the illegals a good reason to stay here. thousands cross our borders daily. many travel through Arizona on their way to other parts of the country. Why would they leave now?

This proposition says that EVERY PERSON shall recieve minimum wage, NOT JUST CITIZENS. AND.......if an illegal is ever fired (if Arizona cracks down on illegal immigration) this proposition allows an illegal to SUE OR FORCE THE STATE TO SUE ON THEIR BEHALF AT TAXPAYERS EXPENSE AND THE COURT IS REQUIRED TO AWARD THEM 2-3 TIMES THEIR TOTAL PAY AT ARIZONAS HIGHER MINIMUM WAGE.

You do the math.......a entry level person at any non-skilled job will be making $4,000 less than any starting teacher in Arizona.

What is happening to this country?

Hell this is global communism. Illegals will get a bonus if they are ever caught.

This proposition should be called the "Illegal Immigration Incentive and Reward Act."

I'm so upset over this proposition I can hardly contain myself.

MY issue here is that there is a right way and a wrong way to go about doing this type of thing.

I can see how banning future illegal immigration is plausible; however, evicting currently existing residents is unacceptable. Making laws that fine businesses that hire illegals is ok and I have no issue with it.

If you make it impossible for them to get a job, they will move on their own.

Using thug tactics isn't the answer.

Renting to them in the first place is what's unacceptable. If they are illegals, no eviction should be necessary, their immediate deportation should take care of it.

How do you ban them when they come over the borders by the thousands? We need a wall….and we need military at the borders to stop even one from coming over.
Then we need to clean house and start sending what illegals that are here home.

Illegals are not residents, nor are they citizens they have no right to be here and vermin judges like him have no business defending invaders.

If they cannot find a job in the general area, they are not likely to look for something to rent.

The laws, in Hazleton, are designed to go hand in hand. The mayor, along with city council, designed the proposal to dissuade anymore illegals from settling into the city, all the while, giving "incentive" for those there, to leave on their own. Now, having said that, it should be a no brainer for employers/landlords to be checking citizenship status for their prospectives, as their being here is already violations of countless federal laws.

My only beef with the laws, in Hazleton, is that the mayor/city council waited until the city spiraled out of control, and then became "active". My problem with this judge, and ANY supporter of the illegal immigrants right to stay here illegally, is that without a doubt, race/racism ALWAYS enter into the argument. But what they fail to realize, or admit, whichever the case may be, it is alot easier to illegally immigrate from Mexico, than it is from Africa, or China. So is Hazleton anti-Latino (I just love these cutesy ootsie names for groups of people) or are they anti illegal immigrants... and the majority of said illegals just happen to be Latino?

Actually, we only need to do one thing. Fine employers who use illegal aliens. This law is already on the books.

The law requires that companies fill out an I-9 form for ANYONE who applies for a job, and requires identification which proves citizenship or legal status, per I-9. No proof of legality, no work. Now if we just enforced that law, and gave out stiff fines to employers who violated it, that would be the end of the illegal alien invasion.

We dont need new laws. We need existing laws to be enforced.

Oh I agree fully, it's a crying shame it's having to come to this. But remember, Mayor's and Governor's have no control over enforcing immigration laws. The Feds have written em as such that states are powerless in that regard. Coupled with the fact that we all know the I-9 is useless, because, if I understand it correctly, there is no *central database* for employers to verify that the SS number belongs to the person giving it to them. And from what I understand, also, employers are not forced to give anyone information regarding the validity of their employees, so the only way they get caught, is in a raid on their records for other misdeeds.

Mayor's and/Governor's are strangled by the huge burden for the federal government's inaction, and quite frankly, I'm glad to see them doing whatever they can to benefit their cities/states. The unfortunate is, that we have people who believe we must play *nice* and allow this continuous invasion, lest be *racist* since a huge majority are from one corrupt country.

Fines schmines, fines do not motivate people to obey the law.The money these scum save by employing illegals most likely saves them more money even if with fines. Those who hire illegals need to have their businesses/property/assests taken away from, hiring illegals needs to be a felony so that way these scum will have no voice at the ballot box, those that hire illegals need to be thrown in jail and they need to be denied any ability to own and or operate a business.

“We dont need new laws. We need existing laws to be enforced.”

I agree with you but…we need to start taking ALL illegals back to Mexico. The majority of them are not working. And a large majority of them in my state have committed crimes and are in prisons.

I think you are wrong about governors not being able to do anything.

http://www.alipac.us/article1091.html

Napolitano vetoed what the people voted passed.

“Napolitano vetoed Proposition 200 and vetoed a bill (the State Legislature sent to her) that let local law enforcement deal with immigration issues such as asking suspects their residency status.”

We just passed two more propositions that go against illegals……..she can and probably will veto those as well.

She vetoes illegal immigration bills.

“Having vetoed nearly 60 bills in her term, including some key bills to cut benefits and the flow of illegal aliens into the state, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano is facing a political backlash that could cost her re-election in 2006. The nearly 60 vetoes is the most by any Governor in the states history.”

The people of Arizona last week voted once again for TWO more laws against illegal immigration…..And she still won re-election, and she probably will once again veto them.

I think Janet Napolitano is a primary example of a politicians who says one thing and does another.

For example here is a article of her saying she wants to crack down on illegal immigration.
http://www.azcentral.com/news/articl...advance08.html

Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano will kick-start her re-election campaign Monday by tackling illegal immigration with a sophisticated border radar system and additional staffing that could include stationing National Guard troops at the border.

During her fourth State of the State address, Napolitano's Mexican border security plan will likely call for using a new ground-based radar called "Smart Fence" to detect people trying to illegally cross the U.S.-Mexican border.

She also wants to hire more state Highway Patrol officers to fight crimes associated with illegal immigration. And she would like the National Guard to play a supporting role at the border, but only if the federal government pays the tab. Napolitano's initiatives on illegal immigration would cost an estimated $50 million to $100 million.

Then here are some examples of Janet Napolitano doing everything she can to undermine any attempt at curbing illegal immigration.

The U.S. Department of Justice said Friday that Gov. Janet Napolitano erred when she vetoed a bill that would have prevented people from casting a provisional ballot at a polling place if they could not produce identification.

PHOENIX - Gov. Janet Napolitano refused Wednesday to formally proclaim voter approval of Proposition 200, a move that will further delay use of the initiative's voting provisions.

That was the point I was trying to make in my retort post.

No jobs = no invasion.

QFT.

I will be so happy when this retarded "illegal-immigrant-persecution-complex" that Americans have fallen into wears off.

Can't they find some flag burners to bitch about? This **** is getting old.
