Federal court rules students’ pro-gun shirts are protected by First Amendment

Straight for the juvenile insults! Keep 'em coming, I'm sure you've got more! :ROFLMAO:
this is coming from the guy who claimed I hate public education because I support free speech. Your hypocrisy is tsunami level

Freedom of speech is a good thing, provocation is not.
schools are were students should be exposed to ideas they find uncomfortable or challenging so they are prepared to deal with such things when they are in the working world.

And now Turtle is playing the "I didn't say the words that I said" card. Here, let me help him:

advocating second amendment rights has nothing to do with school shootings. Advocating free speech is not the same as advocating say kiddie porn either. its time to crush schools that suppress free speech.

If a school does not do what Turtle wants, he wants to crush it.

I don't know about that, Aoc. I mean, I'm a conservative, but I feel they should make a special case for schools and not allow such shirts there. Children are so impressionable and they might misinterpret what the shirt implies. Considering our sad history of schools and guns, it almost looks like it might be asking for trouble, regardless of the harmless intentions.

Don't get me wrong--I'm in favor of school guards having holstered guns--but having one on a student's shirt is just a little too suggestive.
If we are going to rule out shirts with guns then we need to rule out classrooms with far left wing liberals teaching or indoctrinating students.

I want to punish school administrators who violate constitutional rights of citizens

No, you said you want to crush SCHOOLS, not just the administrators, who don't do things your way. Are you seeing that your language earlier was way too harsh?

same with white pride vs black pride, or Christian Pride vs Islamic Pride. sadly some schools suppress white, or straight or Christian expression while allowing gay, Muslim or black expressions
Yes some schools are very bigoted.

I get the straight pride thing is to provoke people that you have the right to do that. I don't know where people get off but you don't have that right it's free speech.

I remember seeing satanists petition to get a statue of baphomet placed in a courthouse yard. That was strictly to provoke people and I thought it was funny.

Again sauce for the goose.

Crushed may not be the right word maybe defunded or re-engineered. Public schools in our country are an embarrassment and look at the stupid stuff we're talking about some damn t-shirts. Meanwhile the richest country in the world doesn't have the best schools in the world.

I think the apparatus is too big and monopolistic for a few tweaks to do any good.

Are you saying that headlines are just the surface? ;)

There's a lot to unpack there, and I don't know how much common ground you and I could reach. Perhaps another time.

What’s surprising is that this took a federal court to decide. Seems like a pretty simple case.

Too late. You outed yourself. You hate public education and want to use your personal interpretation of freeze peach as an excuse to crush it.
Looks like he hates public school administrators who ignore the Bill of Rights.

Okay, let's do both--and throw in right-wing conservative teachers, as well. That would be fair, right? (Or left? :) )

Emily I think you have me mixed up with another person; I didn't write the words attributed to me in your post #68.

In the 70's, rural kids brought guns to school so they could hunt on the way home. We would leave them in the school office during classroom hours. I did as well, and bagged my first Buck about a 1/2 mile from the school.

Fast forward 40 years and all of a sudden kids bring them to school for killing others.

But now the liberals say it's a gun problem................... and not a culture problem.

Oh my gosh, Aoc! My sincerest apologies! I must have made a quote-within-a-quote and got confused. On a message board, that's a HUGE error! It's too late for me to go back and make a correction--the "edit" button is gone--so all I can do is apologize again. Sorry for the stupid mistake, Aoc!

That's fascinating, Retired. Gosh, how times have changed! And I agree--it's a culture problem--as your post clearly indicates.

It's no problem, I've made the same mistake myself in the past.

Freedom of speech is a good thing, provocation is not.

The 1st Amendment was not written to protect popular and unprovocative speech; that being said, just because you can do a thing does not necessarily mean you should do a thing.

A prime example is National Socialist Party of America v. Village of Skokie, 432 U.S. 43 (1977) .......you can despise the message and the messenger while still respecting the right to speak it under the 1st Amendment providing it isn't an actual call to commit violence.

I don't mind free expression. But let's not forget that pre-coronavirus, school shootings were common. Not everyone believes that guns and schools mix.

The only thing that changed was that kids stopped going to school. Hmmm!
