Alderman Burke's law firm represented Trump's businesses for 12 years. Do I know that this has anything to do with Trump? No. Are odds better than even that this has something to do with Trump? Well, Feds just raided Deutsche Bank, the only bank that would loan to Trump, so you be the judge.

Federal agents showed up unannounced at the City Hall office of Finance Committee Chairman Ed Burke, kicked everyone out and papered over the windows Thursday morning.

The nature of their visit was not known, but Ald. Burke (14th) has dodged dozens of federal investigations over five decades in Chicago politics.

Federal agents also showed up to Burke’s ward office and papered over the windows there.

A spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office declined to comment. Calls to the FBI office in Chicago and the IRS criminal investigations division were not immediately returned.

A reporter knocked on the office door Thursday morning; the man who answered, who was not a member of Burke’s office staff, had no comment.

This guy is gonna end up with so much public dirt on him and none of his base nor the GOP will care a bit. The end of rule of law has come. Trump is the last president of the United states because we will never be united again, largely thanks to King Tangface.

Watch America circle the drain. We are in the process of ceding control to the Kremlin.

RIP USA:roll:

At least I will end up in Cascadia, where most folks are sensible and we still ahve an "environment" to protect, and the will to do it.

Right now we appear to be evenly split between the possibility of Trump overcoming the rule of law and Democratic institutions, and the possibility of rule of law and Democratic institutions overcoming Trump.

At this point one outcome is not more certain than the other.

Awaiting some tweets, to confirm that Trump is ****ting the Presidential brick.

I sure would like to hope so, but I am skeptical, for some reason Trump's base seems willing to believe anything they are so whipped up in fear that America is "browning". I just hope it doesn't embolden the GOP to stick with this hard line refusal to hold TRump accountable. I think McConnel is pushing this as far as he can, because if the base doesn't desert, it will give them the belief in the absolute impunity of accountablility of the Potus. If the evidence gets overwhelming that Putin OWNS Trump, McConnel is just waiting to see if the base turns, if they don't, he will feel he's won and it's over.

Yeaah I hope it kills him and I hate to feel that. I just don't see the base ever turning, Trump has been so successful with his weak minded fear filled base. They are terrified of becominga white minorty and terrified of gays and they only respond to dog whistles and confirmation bias now. I literally think 3 in ten white Americans AT LEAST, neeed a professional deprogrammer and extensive therapy or we are ****ed. So basically we're ****ed.

Brainwashed Limbaugh and Hannity listeners are a real thing but, why do they matter? People listen to Alex Jones every single day. Why should the opinions of quacks be regarded as legitimate?

On one side you've got:

1)The Mueller investigation (thus far appearing to act without obvious interference from Whitaker).
2)An upcoming Democratic-controlled House
3)A court system that is not yet taken over by Trump's demagoguery, and is still acting independently
4)A still free and independent press that is under attack but is still otherwise respected

On the other side you've got:

1)A President with pardon power and the ability to throw all manners of wrenches into the gears
2)A newly installed Trump toady as AG
3)A Republican-controlled Senate set on doing everything in its power to protect Trump
4)Two media outlets that are mouthpieces for the Republican Party

Both sides have extraordinary firepower, and we can't yet say who'll prevail.

If Trump keeps his numbers above 40% with the GOP, I'm convinced the GOP will never turn on him. It's dependednt on him dipping below 30% with his base, and at this point IDK if anything could sway his base, so steeped in terror of immigrants as he has them.

If crimes surface Republicans will act. How could they ever show their faces in public if they didn't? Their party would be ruined for a generation.

You left out one thing.

How much exposure do Democrats have, if taking Trump out spills over onto the GOP, who knows if it leads to the DNC and other dirt? If that is even a possibility we will end up with some level of Democrat complicity, and while I feel that ois unlikely, I don't rule it out.

Thta's what I mean, Trump seems so good at stoking the brown fol fear, I begin to wonder how much of Trump's base is capable of believing hard evidence at thois point. The alt-right political porn sites, russian trolls and anti immigrant fear is mind bogglingly effective so far.

McConnel is waiting to see which way the wind blows, if the base hold, the GOP will grant a mulligan on crimes, as they would have with Nixon had the public not turned.

The difference is, no hugely unpopular war and draft now.

Trump's base WILL gradually shrink. It may not happen fast enough for you or me, but it will happen. There will always be liberals and conservatives, but the pendulum is going to gradually drift to the left: The conservative nuts of the future will still be further left than the conservative nuts of today. Progress is inevitable: Two steps forward, one step back is the way culture evolves. Things might seem dire when we're in the one step back phase, but things will change for the better and America will come out stronger.

I agree. The GOP WILL turn on Trump the second doing so = more votes for his replacement. And the further he falls, the closer that day comes.

When you say 'represented Trump's businesses for 12 years' that's a bit misleading. He has a law practice that specializes in property tax appeals in Chicago. They handled property tax appeals for the Chicago Trump tower. I haven't seen any indication that he had dealings with Trump's businesses outside of that. It's extremely doubtful that this has anything to do with Trump -- his name was just thrown in to give the article more sizzle. More likely the ongoing controversy over his management of the city's worker's compensation fund, especially since this involved his council offices.

Exactly, but that's the bottom line, they only care about keeping their jobs and the money that does with that. It's all about public opinion. If Trump can spin it enough or not.

Mueller's Democratic team will attack every lawyer, business associate and financial institute that Trump has ever used to insure that everyone is terrified to have anything to do with President Trump or his family in true Gestapo style.

"Free and independent press" :lamo

There's not a mega billionaire or mega billion international company that you don't believe every word they say, is there? Do you make a list of television commercials you see to know what you must buy too?

Mueller doesn't have a democratic team. Nothing, whatsoever, that Mueller or his people have done is even remotely like the Gestapo.

Yet again you demonstrate you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

Mueller is a conservative republican working for a conservative republican administration.

Hmm

Well Trump did cry like a little bitch when Mueller began the investigation, claiming any examining of financial records would be crossing a red line.

Somehow I dont think Mueller gave a toss. If the bread crumb trail leads to financial records its well within the investigations mandate.

Trump supporters best hope there cult leader has not been naughty. Mueller bagged the Enron culprits, and they are much smarter than Trump, and in prison.

Again, it's doubtful this had anything to do with Trump -- again, this is Burke's city council offices. I also doubt that records related to contesting property valuation of a single property would be of any value to the Mueller investigation.
