Someone wants to screw the country. To hurt it, hurt its people, selfishly - or help powerful interests do so.

They need something to say to hide it.

And that is why, in 1775:

"Patriotism having become one of our topicks, [Samuel] Johnson suddenly uttered, in a strong determined tone, an apophthegm, at which many will start: ‘Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.’ But let it be considered, that he did not mean a real and generous love of our country, but that pretended patriotism which so many, in all ages and countries, have made a cloak for self-interest."

It's remarkable how effective this con job is. It could hardly be more obvious: right-wingers who support oligarchy, use faux patriotism to hide it. They can't shut up about patriotism, and the flag, and the national anthem. At trump's recent rally he read the pledge of allegiance while his mob in jail sang the national anthem to a crowd wearing all sorts of flag apparel.

Trillions of dollars are taken and people don't care because they are so conned by people chanting patriotism and attacking Democrats as unpatriotic they're blind to it. It wasn't new in 1775, and it still works. There's something fundamental that makes many gullible to the con.

To be fair, not only are lib-progs, i.e. Democrats, considered to be anti-American by our considerable mob of Patriots in the MAGAsphere, so are RINOs and various Libertarians; in fact, being called a scoundrel may even be considered an upgrade from deplorable, but I'll have to run it by the folk on Truth Social before I know for sure.

MAGA.

Your description perfectly fits what the liberal / progressive / Democrats and their public policies are doing.

They need something to say to hide it.
Yes, and that's where the lamestream lying, or more accurately politically editorial driven decisions, is exactly doing.

This the reaction from the liberal / progressive / Democrats when they've been caught out.

The 'con' is believing what the lamestream lying, or more accurately politically editorial driven decisions media, is gaslighting.

You are receiving a very rare Palin MAGA for this:

MAGA

Please continue fighting the good fight!

Interesting thing I just found out about MAGA (since it was mentioned, and it's seen in light of patriotism):

Trump imposed tariffs on thousands of products from various countries and not just steel from China, as part of his America First policy.

Biden did not reverse them except for one: I think he switched the steel tariffs from China to Japan. That's it.

Here is what faux patriotism looks like….

She's right and you're wrong. We have to be honest about our problems. She is and you're not. You think that her perspective on the black experience in America means she hates our country???

You have mistaken her genuine sentiment to be illegitimate. You want her to be a cheerleader for trump ????
