Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top disease expert in the U.S., appeared to double down on recent comments he made that attacks on him are essentially attacks on science.

Axios, citing New York Times writer Kara Swisher’s podcast, "Sway," quoted Fauci defending his record on COVID-19.

"It is essential as a scientist that you evolve your opinion and your recommendations based on the data as it evolves…and that’s the reason why I say people who then criticize me about that are actually criticizing science," he said.

I know that if a ‘bat’ virus being studied at a nearby lab suddenly appears to be spreading within the nearby general population that the lab is more likely to be the source of it than some animal that Fauci (or any other scientist) has yet to identify. The latest line (lie?) of the CCP is that COVID-19 likely came from a US lab, since the CCP also lacks any scientific evidence that COVID-19 is (or was ever) present in some local animal species.

Since no scientist anywhere can state with certainty the origin of COVID-19, I cannot understand how Fauci has failed in any way.

As for debating technique, you cannot conflate Fauci with the CCP and pretend that their lies somehow implicate him! He works for the CDC, not CCP, ok.

As a life long bureaucrat, he is outed as a liberal Activist.

Saying that scientists evolve their ideas as additional information is available information expands does not forma basis to condemn him.

We should not condemn Fauci for having changing opinions on stuff as new information is gained any more than we should condemn Trump for doing exactly the same thing.

It is interesting, though, that Trump was so directionally correct in so many topic areas while the incomplete data was still coming in.

Also interesting that the the media propagandists idolize Fauci for doing the same thing that they condemn Trump for doing.

Fauci's claims are provable. If he made claims or policy decisions that weren't supported by the science we knew at the time, that's something that can be demonstrated.

It think it's telling that I don't see those sorts of details in these threads. I think if we ever get to those specifics, we'll find that Fauci made a judgement call based on the information he had on hand.

Let us also not forget that Fauci worked for the Trump administration, so they enabled everything Fauci did and/or failed to replace him with someone honest, depending on your POV.

His advice on masks, as an example, was ALWAYS a combination of opinion and party line talking points. Connections to science were sometimes there and sometimes not.

His pronouncements, however, were always given the weight of absolute fact even when they contradicted previous pronouncements previously afforded the benefit of absolute fact.

Fauci has a runaway ego. His testimony regarding NIH funding of gain of function research in Wuhan and Dr. Baric’s work was duplicitous at best if not outright perjury. And, of course, we all know he lied about masks early on to dissuade the general public from hoarding PPE needed by healthcare professionals. So yeah, I have a problem with his wildly egotistical ‘I AM science!!!’ declaration.
