Far-Right Republicans Press Closer to Power Over Future Elections

As the halfway point nears of a midterm year that is vastly friendlier to Republicans, the party’s voters have nominated dozens of candidates for offices with power over the administration and certification of elections who have spread falsehoods about the 2020 presidential contest and sowed distrust in American democracy.
...
The rise of election deniers is far from over. Primary contests coming later this month in Colorado and in early August in Arizona and Wisconsin will provide more clarity on the depth of Republican voters’ desire to rally behind candidates devoted to the false idea that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald J. Trump.
...
“We are in a dangerous place at the moment,” said Ben Berwick, the counsel for Protect Democracy, a nonpartisan group dedicated to resisting authoritarianism. “There is a substantial faction in this country that has come to the point where they have rejected the premise that when we have elections, the losers of the elections acknowledge the right of the winner to govern.”
...
On Tuesday, Nevada Republicans chose as their nominee for secretary of state Jim Marchant, an organizer of a Trump-inspired coalition of far-right candidates united by their insistence that the 2020 election was rigged. Mr. Marchant, a former state legislator from Las Vegas, told voters during a February debate that “your vote hasn’t counted for decades.”

This is how fascism and authoritarian rule comes to America, like it came to Hungary, which is a democracy in name only now. The people who falsely claimed that the election was rigged, are putting people up for critical office who vow to throw future elections to Republicans. I guess it's ok to rig elections when they do it.

That's the thing. When people say democracy is in danger from the GOP some think, "oh come on, we aren't in danger of becoming like North Korea". They don't realize democracy can die not with a bang like in Nazi Germany, but with a whimper.

The repub fascists are going to cheat until the left agrees with them that our elections are rigged. Then, we're toast as a free nation.

But, this whole "movement" of distrusting government/democracy has been growing for decades. It's been a slow-motion train wreck of really stupid shit being said by politicians and repeated by a consolidated media with zero responsibility. I'm reminded of the phrase, "The Republicans run on the idea that government doesn't work, then get elected and prove it." That is genuinely what's happened. They have an open hostility to America, as a diverse country and have been actively undermining its future for many years.

The civil war didn't end in 1865, it just became a cold war that has, again, become real.

The left already knows are elections are rigged, the democrats have been rigging them for over a 150 years

Down ballot choices have certainly become increasingly important. School boards are a perfect example. Eyes are open to what the impact has been in letting the left own early education.

Facts.

Born, raised, and spent most of my adult life in the deep South. The ongoing narrative has been "the South will rise again." You can't throw a rock down here without hitting a confederate flag. Hell, they build an entire monument in Georgia, to honor confederate generals.

Rigging election is OK if you do so legally by legislation or other mechanism. Rep/cons have been working in this direction for yrs while Dems have sat, and still sit, on their hands.

It's "our" elections. You prove my point by being both ignorant enough to believe what you say and confident enough to say it.

I don't give a shit how you right it, prove me rong that the left has not been rigging elections for over 150 years

Biden won by seven million votes. That's a lot of people NOT sitting on their hands.

The hated Trump got more popular votes then the beloved Obama, sure anyone can print ballots on the back of fruit loop boxes and Kool cigarette cartons

It's "write it" and "prove me wrong". You should give a shit, because it's how humans communicate effectively. No matter what you "right", though, it's "rong".

I refuse to prove anything to idiots. It's like wasting your time teaching algebra to chimps.

LOL Can you link to a single candidate's website who's campaign is based on "Trump got cheated in 2020?"

With all the propaganda in the media, the exact opposite is true.

We call this “projection to hide an agenda”

You have to pass it to see what’s in it type stuff.

Yup.

Hate, rage, projection.

LOL. It's more votes "than" the beloved Obama. Trump really does love the uneducated and they love him.

I'm not sure where you're going with the Fruit Loops and Kools, but it sounds like the kind of bigotry a Trumpanzee would spew. So, are you arguing, then, that Trump won by printing ballots on the backs of Walmart bags and porn mags devoted to incest? Your theory explains a lot.

Uhhhh...are you and bear just Russian bots, trying to make Americans look stupid? Mission accomplished.

Trump endorsed candidate Kari Lake is running for AZ Governor while Trump endorsed candidate Mark Finchem is running for AZ Secretary of State. They are both hard right-wing conspiracy theorists who deny the 2020 election results. I will be voting against both of them as soon as I receive my Republican ballot in the mail.

Biden won by seven million votes. That's a lot of people NOT sitting on their hands.

I don't mean the voters. I mean the Dem politicians. The voters did that on their own. Not by Dem leadership to register and vote Dem. How else do you think we got here without a rabid effort by the Rep/cons, and with but impotent response from the Dems?

The GOP targeted the state legislatures and the courts for a reason…

The hated Trump got more popular votes then the beloved Obama, sure anyone can print ballots on the back of fruit loop boxes and Kool cigarette cartons
Was the population of the US in 2016 the same as it was in 2012 or 2008?

Was the percentage of voter turn out in the US in 2016 the same as it was in 2012 or 2008?

Did you know that Mr. Obama got more popular votes than George Washington (or ANY other President of the United States of America prior to 2009, for that matter)?

Did you know that Mr. Biden got the highest number of popular votes in the entire history of the United States of America?

Did you know that the "popular vote" has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the election of the President of the United States of America?

Did you know that the "position" posted is total crap?

Please do not make fun of the literacy level of the members of "Amiricun High Skool Graduateds four Trump".

Two things here....didn't Gore whine about voter fraud in 2000 and Hilliary spend four years claiming she was cheated out of the 2016 presidential election.
Now this:
More than one million U.S. voters have switched their party affiliation to the GOP over the past 12 months, painting a grim picture for Democrats in the 2022 midterms.

Where was the NYT when we had "far left" "election deniers" in power over future elections?

Oh yeah... egging them on!
