BERLIN (AP) — A lawmaker from the far-right Alternative for Germany party was attacked and seriously wounded by several men in the northwestern city of Bremen in what police said Tuesday may have been a politically motivated assault.

The beating of Frank Magnitz, a lawmaker in the national parliament who leads the party’s branch in Bremen, drew condemnation from across the political spectrum.

What's this with the lawmaker thing? Magnitz makes laws as little as the AfD does, simply because neither is in any position to do so.

Okay, I know it's the text the AP published, but it's sloppy.

Beyond which, this action is atrocious and there's no excuse for it. An interpretation shared by most Germans who take their politics seriously enough to not want them invaded by criminal thuggery.

I have a feeling there might be some decent discussion as to how applicable "lawmaker" as a title/accolade/label is when talking about politicians.

On a case by case basis, because some do plenty.

Sure enough, but in this particular case not. Magnitz is not sufficiently significant to be seen as having law-making influence.
