Great advice...where were you when I needed you? lol...:2razz:

All my grandparents are gone, as is my mom, and with them went so much history I don't know but wonder about often now that I am older...

When we were young my father gave great advice at the dinner table to the boys, "avoid women at all costs, they cloud the mind and take over your life." Mom would respond, "shut up and eat if you expect dinner tomorrow night." He'd wink at us and shut up. My sisters would throw food at him. He'd tell them "tongue sandwiches will get you pregnant." Fortunately we all learned otherwise.

There are some things better left unsaid between parents and children. Grandparents are more truthful.

When my father passed away, my mother found some old photographs and went to my grandmother to write notes about who the various people were. SHe promptly came home , put the photos away and totally forgot about them. 25 years later, she found them, and I found one of the photos were my great great great grandfathers. (two different ones), and one was my great great grandmother. My uncle didn't even know these photos existed.

I found out he didn't even know my great grandfather had a sister (it would have been his aunt). It's very easy to have family history just disappear.

I certainly wish I'd been forward-thinking enough to get my grandmother's recipe for fried apple pies.

being within driving distance of my folks and my wife's family is one of the reasons that we haven't moved out of this state. i also enjoy calling my parents every week. Mom and i piss / moan / celebrate about stuff over a few drinks. she and i are sort of like fraternal twins.
