Looks like Trump is going too far even for some supporters. The former SEAL voted for Trump and has not been a supporter of mask requirements - getting himself banned from Delta Airlines after refusing to wear a mask during a flight.

Famed Navy SEAL pushes back after Trump amplifies baseless bin Laden conspiracy theory

The former Navy SEAL known for his role in the operation that killed Osama bin Laden is pushing back after President Donald Trump amplified conspiracy theories that the terrorist leader's death was a hoax.
Robert O'Neill, who says he killed bin Laden in the 2011 raid, has rebuffed Trump and others in several tweets for promoting the conspiracy theory that bin Laden's body double was instead killed.
"Very brave men said [goodbye] to their kids to go kill Osama bin Laden. We were given the order by President Obama. It was not a body double," O'Neill tweeted on Tuesday. "Thank you Mr. President. Happy birthday @USNavy."

The response from the former Navy SEAL came after the president on Tuesday retweeted a QAnon-linked account that promoted a baseless conspiracy theory alleging that bin Laden is still alive and his body double was instead killed. The account has since been suspended. Trump retweeted another video on Wednesday promoting conspiracy theories about bin Laden's death.
Why is Trump promoting these conspiracy nutters? Is it just another attack on a president who was far more popular than Trump? The man has enough serious issues to deal with as president and really should be focusing on those matters at this time.

I've always found it bizarre that we captured Sheikh Khalid Mohammad (the guy who planned 9/11), and he's still alive, but we decided not to take OBL alive.
Several sources have stated that the dramatic gun battle in the master bedroom of the 3 story house OBL was in was just Pentagon propaganda, much like the Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman fairytales. It would have made more sense to bring OBL back to the USA, extract as much information as possible from him, and then put him on trial. No honest Dem will disagree with that idea I believe.

OBL was an American asset at one time. No way they were bringing him back here.

He was as much as “American asset“ as Charles DeGaulle.

The constant conflation of the Taliban and Mujahideen of the Afghan-Soviet War is incredibly ignorant.

Bin Ladin was already dead. Obama has the body thrown in the ocean so his identity absolutely could never be confirmed.

Lies and batshit conspiracy theories is all trumpublicans have left. It shows their constant desperation since the majority of the American public know their policies and philosophies suck balls.

There was DNA confirmation by SEAL operatives ( generally not leftists) and the results were shared with other Pentagon officials.
Only morons believe such nonsense...
This is just anothter example of Trump not wanting to accept that Obama had a big success as Commander in Chief and tries desperately to change facts in his endless effort to prove that he is a better president than Obama.

When Trump doubles down, he DOUBLES DOWN. This is move on his part is just absolute stupidity. I'm not sure if he understands that he doesn't need to convince his base to vote for him; it's everyone else he needs to address. This kind of crap is just going to make a case against voting for him. If another moon landing had occurred under the previous administration, I wouldn't put it past him to push that fake moon landing conspiracy theory.

Totally agree!

He senses that he has too many supporters who will swallow whatever BS he says. He has realized that since the time he told us that he can kill somebody in the middle of 5th Avenue and still not lose support.

Like some dude on twitter, right? lol
Close jred. The nyt.
The official narrative of the hunt for and killing of bin Laden at first seemed like a clear portrait, but in effect it was more like a composite sketch from multiple perspectives: the Pentagon, the White House and the C.I.A. And when you studied that sketch a little more closely, not everything looked quite right. Almost immediately, the administration had to correct some of the most significant details of the raid. Bin Laden had not been ‘‘engaged in a firefight,’’ as the deputy national-security adviser, John Brennan, initially told reporters; he’d been unarmed. Nor had he used one of his wives as a human shield. The president and his senior advisers hadn’t been watching a ‘‘live feed’’ of the raid in the Situation Room; the operation had not been captured on helmet-cams. But there were also some more unsettling questions about how the whole story had been constructed. Schmidle acknowledged after his article was published that he had never actually spoken with any of the 23 SEALs. Some details of Bissonnette’s account of the raid contradicted those of another ex-SEAL, Robert O’Neill, who claimed in Esquire and on Fox News to have fired the fatal bullet. Public officials with security clearances told reporters that the torture scenes that were so realistically depicted in ‘‘Zero Dark Thirty’’ had not in fact played any role in helping us find bin Laden.
---
For that matter, bin Laden was hardly ‘‘in hiding’’ at all; his compound in Abbottabad was actually a safe house, maintained by the Pakistani intelligence service (Saudis Arabia paid for the upkeep). When the United States confronted Pakistani intelligence officials with this information, Hersh wrote, they eventually acknowledged it was true and even conceded to provide a DNA sample to prove it.
---
What was perhaps most shocking of all, though, was that this elaborate narrative was being unspooled not by some basement autodidact but by one of America’s greatest investigative reporters, the man who exposed the massacre of hundreds of Vietnamese civilians in the village of My Lai (1969), who revealed a clandestine C.I.A. program to spy on antiwar dissidents (1974) and who detailed the shocking story of the abuses at Abu Ghraib (2004). Could the bin Laden article be another major Hersh scoop?

It also would have been too embarrassing for the Bush family and Henry Kissinger to explain why Bin Laden's family was so interlinked with them.

A live bin Laden here in the United States? Why not just beg for a terrorist's attack?

Well some appeared to do just that, such as Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, Bill Kristol, and even Greatest Ally© Netanyahu. They said that it would take another 'pearl harbor' sized attack to get the American people to agree to radically reshape the middle east to suite their tastes for what that region should look like.

What does that have to do with us taking bin Laden out rather than capturing him?

Peanuts compared to those who will take a 100 times "pearl harbor" sized pandemic casualties to get the advancement of their domestic policies

Well some of those men I listed prevented us from capturing or killing him. OBL was the goose that laid the golden eggs for America and Israel.

Both sides are attempting to exploit the pandemic for political gain. I watched a US Senator waste her 10 minutes during the Amy Coney Barrett hearings, by selfishly turning her question time into a political speech for why she should be Vice President. You know all too well that these things go both ways.

Look, we're talking about the operation that occurred on May 2, 2011. It would have been foolhardy to have kept him alive.

We kept him alive for 10 years Dave. Do you really think the most advanced military and intelligence community in the world was unable to locate a guy who lived in caves and big gaudy compounds for a decade?

Do you think that the Democrats would have let the Bush Administration getting away with deliberately letting the no 1 American threat stay alive?

They could not find him! The US military has also limitations., and battling insurgency (and its leaders) is not that easy. The rest is just conspiracy theories...

Jesus. It wouldn't have been beneficial to capture him. Get it yet? It was more beneficial to kill him. Get that yet?
