As many as 1300 people lay dead in Damascus today, many of them women and children, most definitely killed by nerve gas. The rebels are blaming Syrian dictator Bashar Assad's regime. Most people might take Syrian rebels' statements with a grain of salt, so the big question is who did it?

One way to find out is to see whose gas it was, but this is irrelevant.

Given that it is a war zone, and both the sitting Syrian government and the rebel groups have been found with nerve gasses, it doesn't matter whose nerve gas it originally was. It may very well have been manufactured Syria, but it could also be from the former Soviet Union, only to have been stolen and sold by the mob. The question of whose gas is totally irrelevant, being that rebel stores could have been captured by the government, or vice versa.

The best way to figure it out, though, is to check motives.
1.The rebels have nothing to lose in terms of international reputation. They are, in fact, some of the very least popular people in the world with such headliners as Al Qaeda in Iraq, Turkish Jihad and Abu Sakkar, the literally heart-eating Syrian rebel.
2.Obama has publicly declared the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime a 'red line' that would imply American intervention.
3.The rebellion isn't doing well.
4.Rebels are demanding international response to the gas attacks (presumably in their favor).
5.The US backs the rebels, and a US invasion would end Assad's regime within days.

Is Obama willing to go against International law and the UN to prove himself? Sadly the recipient of the Noble Peace Prize is proving he is a liar and warmonger.

How dare you overshadow Obomber's integrity with a logical argument. How long have you been a racist?

Perhaps we actually have evidence that it was Assad.

Yes, it's logical that terrorists...

Went against their best interest and forced UN involvement.
They seized a chem weapons depot without resistance.
They went into Assad controlled territory, prepared the rockets and launched from 10 various locations without resistance.
They conducted after action reviews in protective gear.
All of this with Assad officers.

That's logical.

On August 20th, the rebels in Damascus were attacking the airport with missles. A few days before that they took down an Iranian cargo plane.

So I question whether Assad had the upper hand in Damascus before the chemical weapon attacks on August 21 in the suburbs.

Yes its logical that the terrorists.....

Went against their best interests which they have done so in the past and forced UN involvement and to get any type of media coverage they can.
Yes they seized a chems weapons depot......but it was not without resistance. They killed Regime forces and any prisoners they executed. Especially any Alawites.
Yes they went into Assad territory.....where they do have tunnels and safehouses where they stash their supplies.
No they never cover any action reviews in protective gear as they are always looking to play victim.

Quite Logical and well within their actions.

The longer Assad stands, the stronger the terrorist groups get. Removing him from power is not in their interest.

They killed Regime forces and any prisoners they executed. Especially any Alawites.

There was no fight at the depot.

Yes they went into Assad territory.....where they do have tunnels and safehouses where they stash their supplies.

The chems were secured from the depot, transported to Assad territory, prepared and launched without a fight. We have pics.

Quite Logical and well within their actions.

There's no reason and no way a terrorist element could have secured the depot, withdrew contents, prepared the rockets and launched them without a fight, there were ~10 launch sites, there's no way they pulled that off.

And we have audio and perhaps pics of Assad officers involved during the entire event. Are you telling me that the terrorists managed all that and with the help of Assad henchmen?

Impossible.

The longer Assad stands the more Rebel Terrorists get killed. The more that back them directly get killed. These could be civilians associated with Rebel terrorists. This Mean AQ and their Types and any on Terror Watch lists. The longer Assad Stands the more the Sunni know they have to actually fight for something on their own to take over. Possibly without any help from others. Which can be only a good thing.

Oh yeah.....well they have the UN stating that both sides committed atrocities. That both Sides used chems. That is their belief regardless if they can prove it or not. That's Investigators.

They also have the UN stating any military action would be Illegal according to article 51 of the UN concerning aggression. Regardless of what the US and France does. That's the UN Secretary General.

Notice how their words ALWAYS OUTWEIGH what the Lying, deceiving ,double talking, storytelling, Never can keep their stories straight cowardly Rebel Terrorists with their FSA and STNC criminal backers say.

UN people <<<<< tells the truth and the facts. Rebel/Terrorists/Criminals <<<<< Always Lie Cheat and steal and would sell their own family members just for a Shread of credibility.

Welcome back to reality. ;)

The longer Assad stands the more Rebel Terrorists get killed.

Reality check:

As long as Assad remains in defiance, the civil war continues until the only groups left that can provide security are terrorists. Assad falling is a very bad thing for terrorists. With the UN to compete against for security, the terrorists will be marginalized. They will also be excluded from government and, presuming the SNC has signed Rome, will be prosecuted by the ICC.

It's not gonna become AlQyia when Assad falls. Hez will lose training grounds and secure areas for preparation. Puppets of the Iranian regime will be left to compete with the UN for protection.

The best situation for the terrorists is a dictator slaughtering his own people.

If I have to choose between your word and President Obama"s word, You just lost.

I see no reason to believe anything that you say.

The longer Assad stands, the stronger the terrorist groups get. Removing him from power is not in their interest.

So then why are they fighting? Why their goal to overthrow the Assad regime documented in the mainstream media?

We have pics.

That and other information which the administration claims to have has yet to be presented.

There was no fight at the depot.

The chems were secured from the depot, transported to Assad territory, prepared and launched without a fight. We have pics.

Those pics have yet to be presented. In addition to this, it has been reported by the rebels that the sites are not secure.

"A former Syrian general who once led the army’s chemical weapons training program said that the main storage sites for mustard gas and nerve agents are supposed to be guarded by thousands of Syrian troops but that they would be easily overrun.

The sites are not secure, retired Maj. Gen. Adnan Silou, who defected to the opposition in June, said in an interview near Turkey’s border with Syria. 'Probably anyone from the Free Syrian Army or any Islamic extremist group could take them over,' he said." (U.S. plans for possibility that Assad could lose control of chemical arms cache - Washington Post)

There's no reason and no way a terrorist element could have secured the depot, withdrew contents, prepared the rockets and launched them without a fight, there were ~10 launch sites, there's no way they pulled that off.

Like I said before, it the rebels have admitted that the sites are not secure. In addition to this,

"As the Syrian opposition steadily makes territorial gains, U.S. officials and analysts said the odds are increasing that insurgents will seize control of a chemical weapons site or that Syrian troops guarding the installations will simply abandon their posts.

'It’s almost inevitable,' [Michael Eisenstadt, a retired Army officer who directs the military and security studies program at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy] said. 'It may have already happened, for what we know." (Ibid)

And we have audio and perhaps pics of Assad officers involved during the entire event. Are you telling me that the terrorists managed all that and with the help of Assad henchmen?

Those are claims. Neither the audio nor the pictures have actually been presented.

It has been acknowledged that the jihadists are serious fighters in the rebel groups. (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/30/w..._r=2&nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_20120730&)

"With the UN to compete against for security, the terrorists will be marginalized. They will also be excluded from government and, presuming the SNC has signed Rome, will be prosecuted by the ICC."

So, when is the UN coming in militarily or to provide security?

Those are claims. Neither the audio nor the pictures have actually been presented.

Well, not to you. Let's see what the senate (especially the intel) thinks about it.

Back to reality.....the country is splitting into 3 regions. AQ nor Al Nusra and many in the north do not accept the FSA or the Trans national Council. The Christians will not accept the TNC and the FSA. The Kurds will not accept the FSA and the TNC. So there will be no accepting their rule in the North at all.

The Sunni with their backer in the MB and the Salafists will not accept any Alawites or Christians in government.

The terrorists are getting battle experience. If they were to break Assad. Then they will move to the next Shia Dominated Country. In this case back to Iraq causing it to break apart and until they are back on the doorstep of the Persians. The Sunni Genocide would be allowed to run its course.

The best situation for a terrorist is always is in the short term. Here and the present.

The best situation for the innocent and civilians of the world.....are standing up to terrorists and taking them down at all times. So that they cannot spread.

After Assad falls, with the transitional govt.

If Libya is any hint, I don't think that this transitional government will go well.

Well, not to you. Let's see what the senate (especially the intel) thinks about it.

Well, the House has seen the intel and some of them are quite skeptical. For example Congressman Justin Amash. (https://twitter.com/repjustinamash/status/374319778053509120) (https://twitter.com/repjustinamash/status/376081868678246400) (https://twitter.com/repjustinamash/status/376405762903646208) and Congressman Tom Harkin (Harkin on Classified Syria Briefing: 'Frankly Raised More Questions Than It Answered' | The Weekly Standard).

As well as New Hampshire Democratic Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, who "left Thursday’s classified hearing and said she was opposed to the effort 'now so more than ever." (Chemical weapons argument isn)

Also, it has been noted that

In fact, even gaining access to just the classified summary involves a series of unreasonably high hurdles.

We have to descend into the bowels of the Capitol Visitors Center, to a room four levels underground. Per the instructions of the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, note-taking is not allowed.

Once we leave, we are not permitted to discuss the classified summary with the public, the media, our constituents or even other members. Nor are we allowed to do anything to verify the validity of the information that has been provided.

And this is just the classified summary. It is my understanding that the House Intelligence Committee made a formal request for the underlying intelligence reports several days ago. I haven’t heard an answer yet. And frankly, I don’t expect one.

Only 1k civilians killed by coalition forces. Let's give a new democracy some time before we judge it.

Seems reasonable. We're still securing assets. We don't need a leak.

Assad is a terrorist. His continued war serves other terrorist groups.

Course you already knew about this in another thread. Idris is traitor and a Coward as is most the FSA command that wont lead from the Front. That should tell you something in itself. AQ are Terrorists. The MB are terrorists. The Salafists have terrorist brigades. Al Nusra are terrorists and the same with any other Ansar Al Shariah type groups.

12 U.S. Intelligence Officials Tell Obama It Wasn’t Assad

We regret to inform you that some of our former co-workers are telling us, categorically, that contrary to the claims of your administration, the most reliable intelligence shows that Bashar al-Assad was NOT responsible for the chemical incident that killed and injured Syrian civilians on August 21, and that British intelligence officials also know this. In writing this brief report, we choose to assume that you have not been fully informed because your advisers decided to afford you the opportunity for what is commonly known as “plausible denial.”

Intelligence Summary or Political Ploy?

This is not a fine point. We know how these things are done. Although the “Government Assessment” is being sold to the media as an “intelligence summary,” it is a political, not an intelligence document. The drafters, massagers, and fixers avoided presenting essential detail. Moreover, they conceded upfront that, though they pinned “high confidence” on the assessment, it still fell “short of confirmation.”

The Intelligence

In addition, we have learned that on August 13-14, 2013, Western-sponsored opposition forces in Turkey started advance preparations for a major, irregular military surge. Initial meetings between senior opposition military commanders and Qatari, Turkish and U.S. intelligence officials took place at the converted Turkish military garrison in Antakya, Hatay Province, now used as the command center and headquarters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and their foreign sponsors.

Senior opposition commanders who came from Istanbul pre-briefed the regional commanders on an imminent escalation in the fighting due to “a war-changing development,” which, in turn, would lead to a U.S.-led bombing of Syria.

At operations coordinating meetings at Antakya, attended by senior Turkish, Qatari and U.S. intelligence officials as well as senior commanders of the Syrian opposition, the Syrians were told that the bombing would start in a few days. Opposition leaders were ordered to prepare their forces quickly to exploit the U.S. bombing, march into Damascus, and remove the Bashar al-Assad government

The Qatari and Turkish intelligence officials assured the Syrian regional commanders that they would be provided with plenty of weapons for the coming offensive. And they were. A weapons distribution operation unprecedented in scope began in all opposition camps on August 21-23. The weapons were distributed from storehouses controlled by Qatari and Turkish intelligence under the tight supervision of U.S. intelligence officers.....snip~

12????? Wow! :lamo

Can you even count that high MMC?

That's a blog signed by 12 former intel and military officials. It's an intentionally misleading title and a pathetic source.

Right the source that is referenced out By the Washington blogger, don't know much about Journalism do you, not surprising.....but then you still can't get around what the UN said about the Rebels. Nor the Red Cross. Nor the Christians. Nor the Kurds. Etc etc etc .

Which.....really you shouldn't be talking about sources so much. Since you really can't produce them even half of the time.
