Fact-checking President Trump’s 2019 State of the Union address

You pretend to invoke reality yet you ignore the reality that Trump himself proudly claimed responsibility for the shutdown.

Living in that delusional fantasy world with the other Trumpkins has really taken a toll upon you.

Proudly claiming doesn't meet the civics test that I thought as a former teacher you would understand, apparently not. Amazing how you buy rhetoric and ignore actual facts

The agitprop surrounding new york's abortion law is adding fuel to the evangelist flame and is sparking an anti-rights policy call.

Trump is usually dishonest.

This was a campaign rally, nothing less, nothing more.

Including his blatant threat to congressional Democrats to lower their subpoena cannon?

He wants what he's always wanted: to be an autocrat like his overlord, Putin.

He's a New York Used Car Salesman, helped out by daddy-O and enriched off the tax payers via abatements.

If this is the ideal american based on conservative currency-worship, then I refuse to call myself an american. I will accept a stateless sense of being as a person of Earth, I suppose.

Fox News and its audience don't understand democratic socialism. They believe it's all Stalinist Communism.

As far as Trump is concerned, and the republicans and conservatives, you're losing the war.

End of story. Chuck and Nancy even had to rise in applause for that one...

I refuse to call myself an american. I will accept a stateless sense of being as a person of Earth, I suppose.

Yeah, we already knew that about you....Maybe the correct term would be 'enemy from within.'

I liked how he referred to it as an "economic miracle". Apparently the man didn't believe what real Republicans did, which is that the foundations of the economy are strong, and we would come out of a recession. We did. Only an idiot thinks a multi-year (8? 10?) turnaround is a "miracle".

I liked how the Sheriff of El Paso embarrassed him after what Trump lied about concerning El Paso.

I think generally speaking it was an okay speech. It was pretty much what I expected.

The big glaring thing to me was the lack of comments on healthcare, which has historically been Americans' biggest concern. And the GOP engaged in monthly votes to repeal the ACA. Only one brief mention that I remember. Is that not a problem anymore (rhetorical question)? This is part of why the GOP lost so badly in the midterms and special elections. "Duh skeery caravans" mean a lot to Trump's base, but most of the country doesn't care. They want affordable healthcare, safe schools for their kids, and not living paycheck to paycheck or worst case scenario, not to have to work lots of jobs to make ends meet.

His delivery was fine. He is good on stage. Not a fan of his style, but it works for him.

Agreed, good delivery, much better than last year. But he only seems to be on his best behavior once a year. Those thumbs are back to tapping out tweets just as rancorous as ever already.

Yeah, pretty good speech aside from the few obvious awkward moments, but (cliche alert!) even a broken clock is right twice a day.

I've accepted that you and yours are my enemy. Time, though, is your real enemy. You are losing the war.

Again, you guys don't know the difference between democratic socialism and stalinist communism, thanks to your embrace of the ****ing idiot box news network and the moronic pundits of new age regressive republicanism.

What was missing for me was a public apology to the American people for being a complete asswipe and shutting the government down for five weeks. It would have been nice if he spoke to that.

Trump, admit fault? In what alternate universe has that ever happened?

LOL...You know no more of how I get my news, and formulate my opinions than you know of a box of rocks....All you are in here for is to bait others with your inflammatory posting, and your vile crap about anyone who believes in God...

No matter the spin you try and put on this recent push toward "Democratic Socialism", it has it roots, as ALL Socialism does, in Marxism, and thus, it's true path in the end is a march toward authoritarian Centralized Government...We have a wonderful example in our own hemisphere in Venezuela...If you love it so much, move there.

I am ignoring no actual facts and you have not pointed out any that I am ignoring.

Reminds me of the old joke about a similar fellow who finally admitted he made a mistake back in 1976 where he said he was wrong about something and it turned out he was right after all. But he admitted he made a mistake about being wrong when he really was not.

Very Trumpian.

Another civics challenged liberal who buys rhetoric and ignores reality. No bill was put on the President's desk thus the shutdown was Congressional. Still refusing to admit you are a Democratic Operative who has part of their job being in this forum to spread false information and promote 24/7 Trump bashing

Nice spin.

:applaud

You do know that "No bill was put on the President's desk ..." because McConnell wouldn't allow a vote, and that was due to the fact that he knew that bill would get Trump's veto. Being a Trump enabler, Mitch didn't want to force that veto, in order for Trump to keep blaming Democrats, and to convince Trump's supporters that the shutdown wasn't his fault. It was, he said so himself at first, said he would be happy to own it, until he finally learned just how bad a shutdown could get. THEN he blamed those he had promised NOT to blame.

Every bit of that shutdown pain, and loss of billions, took place because Trump is a spiteful, spoiled little brat who is finally, at this late age, being held accountable for his actions. One mostly okay speech doesn't change anything.

Yeah yeah, more buzzword nonsense. You're now talking Venezuela. I have a really good feeling of -exactly- where you get your news. Laughable.

You also display outright ignorance of history. Socialism existed far before Marx. Socialism began in the 17th-18th century. Marx didn't exist until the 19th century.

You guys are too damned easy.

Nice spin.

This is what todays liberal encapsulates....

I feel that way, too, since Trump was elected.

:hm

What the heck happened to the GOP? There used to be reasonable and honorable members of that party in congress, and out here among the people. I used to enjoy spirited debates with conservatives. A little table slapping now and then was the worst it got. Now, I feel like I'm walking on eggshells when I speak my mind to a Republican.

And this ladies and gentlemen is what is commonly known as a 'post reply fail'....Good job...Better luck next time.

I am ignoring no actual facts and you have not pointed out any that I am ignoring.

Fact, the President can only shut down the govt. when a Continuing resolution is vetoed and no bill got to his desk thus no Presidential shutdown. FACT!

Nice spin.

McConnell not allowing the bill to a vote doesn't have a thing to do with Trump but more to the realization that it takes 60 votes in the Senate for cloture. Interesting how the loss of 11 billion dollars could have been prevented by a 5.8 billion dollar investment in the wall. Liberal logic doesn't exist

Wrong. You don't know what marxism is. You don't know what stalinism is.

You're clueless.

I know that both of those men, promoting an ideology that is tied at the hip, are responsible for the deaths of over 100 million people in the course of getting to this utopia of equality BS....And I know that people like you that tout it in ANY of its forms, are either bereft of morality of the reality of that, or are simply ignorant of history..

No. You don't even know that Marxism came after socialism.

You will not lecture to me about history.

Go clown around elsewhere, your arguments are as hollow as the o in god.

No, it's a problem with you not understanding the systems you continuously quote.
