Experts allegiant to Kremlin admit Russia’s stagnation in economy and political syste

The experts polled believe that the situation in these areas has remained unchanged throughout the past year and a half. “Russia is coping with the consequences of the global financial crisis,” experts said. “However, modernization continues to be more a slogan than a real political course.”
“The economy is showing signs of a modest recovery, but there is practically no real modernization, restructuring or diversification,” they noted. “Oil and gas remain the main sources of revenue, corruption continues unchecked and there is almost zero innovation.”
Positive developments in 2009-2010 in observed only in foreign policy and diplomatic activity. Also Russia continues to remain an attractive trading partner, particularly in the energy sector.
