It Could Be EPI

Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) is a condition that occurs in people who cannot digest food normally because their pancreas does not make enough enzymes.
=============================================================
When it comes to a medical thingy that's as important as your pancreas you have to be careful about what your GI doc tells you after you've had an MRI.
I started losing weight at about 5 pounds per month. My GP ordered a series of tests including an MRI. My GI doc said I had chronic pancreatitis & this caused my pancreas to not make enough digestive enzymes so that I wasn't absorbing the nutrition in the food I eat. He prescribed these enzymes in capsules called CREON, to be taken prior to each meal. Taking these capsules did stop the weight loss.
That GI doc left. My new doc looked at the MRI & asked me some question: had I experienced diahrrea or belly pain? When I told him no he told me that I had a pancreatic cyst that would have to be looked at. I did not have pancreatitis. This cyst may be blocking the duct that gets your enzymes from the pancreas to your small intestine.
Pending the cyst exam, I went to my drug store to pick up a bottle of CREON but passed when I was told that it would cost $550! I went home to look for alternatives. These enzymes are made on a large scale from pig pancreas. I had tried several different brands & had several bottles of PANCREATIN 2000 which got good reviews on Amazon. Some mentioned they used it as an alternative to CREON. And it costs only a fraction of $550. So I started taking 2 capsules before meals. After 6 days I found I was putting on weight instead of losing it.
So if you start losing weight & they prescribe CREON, pass on it unless you are wealthy. $6,600 a year is a big chunk of most annual salaries.
